How did people like Ben, Than, and especially Steve C. get fired?
2 2013-12-05 by urabusxrw
It just seems odd to me, these 3 especially seemed loyal and big parts of the show.
Something else I've always wondered, what was the incident Travis had with an intern?

Steve C was fired for wearing women's capri jeans.

He was also late for work entirely too much. Damn car trouble.

He was a man of great leisure

I thought Ben was fired for the physical altercation during the walk-over between XM and FreeFM. There was a lot of accusations about somebody saying something about Stern, somebody spitting on someone else, and then punches thrown (by Ben).
Than left voluntarily to go to California and pursue a career in stand-up comedy. (And then Lazlow gave him a real job).
They never explained why Steve was fired, and even seemed angry about it. But he did previously try to sell their old material back to them after they left CBS and lost all their stuff. Steve had a ton of it on FoundryMusic.com and wanted money for it. Don't know if they ever did pay up though.

There was some serious tension before a couple of those guys got fired / jobs eliminated: 1) Opie was clearly irked that Steve claimed all their old videos as his intellectual property 2) The whole crew was annoyed that Steve took a lot of time off 3) There were a bunch of arguments where people on the staff basically said that Steve C spent all of his time at work posting to his own website (foundrymusic) instead of working on the show
As for Ben, everyone that worked on the show just didn't seem to like the guy. Always the butt of jokes and they just seemed generally annoyed by him. Kinda the way that Danny was treated, except Ant stood up for Danny and no one stood up for Ben. (Not saying that was right or wrong, I don't know what the dude was like, just observing.)

With Steve, Opie tweeted that they (SiriusXM) eliminated his position and that apparently The Opie and Anthony show didn't need an executive producer.
During one of the many fights involving Danny, the one with him and Mars, Mars implied that Danny was somehow at least partly responsible for Steve being fired.

Which was horseshit, Steve was fired the same week Roland was rehired. The boys wanted Roland back so the management got rid of Steve to make way.
3 Unshavenhelga 2013-12-05
Steve booked no one. He was more concerned with his website.
3 99ovr 2013-12-05
"And that's how you executive produce!"
1 rahtin 2013-12-05
Not to mention that Opie based Steve EVERY SINGLE DAY for probably 4 or 5 weeks before he got fired.
2 Motorboat_Jones 2013-12-05
I remember Mars saying that too. I thought Mars said that Danny ran to the channel president and said that Steve had threatened to kick his ass and was dead serious. Steve contended that he was just talking shit but it was enough to get a write up or suspension.

Ben was fired I believe for the incident involving a Howard fan on the walk over. Than I don't remember. Steve C the story was his position was eliminated.

Also for being a cokehead. OP really needs to use the search function, we've gone over some of this many times on other threads.
0 urabusxrw 2013-12-05
I would take this with a grain of salt. I imagine bitter Opie tried to put some things out there.
4 erockarmy 2013-12-05
No, Jim talked about this as well, that they tried to cover for him and jim being a former addict wanted to help someone instead of throwing them off the deep end, but ben ended up threatening jimmy as well
1 Happy_ScrappyHeroPup 2013-12-05
Ben's coke habit is well-documented. They would connnstantly make jokes about it even when he was still working for the show.
4 dazwah 2013-12-05
According to OApedia, Ben is dead to the show. He was involved in the Bam/Mrs.Opie sex tape thing.
4 krbin 2013-12-05
Ben was fired by XM after spitting on that Stern fan during the walkover incident (w/ Master Po and Kenny). He turned against Opie and started the sex tape shit afterwards.
1 TurkFebruary 2013-12-05
What was the sex tape thing??
4 cokevanillazero 2013-12-05
There was a video of Bam Margera supposedly having sex with Opie's fiance.
1 urabusxrw 2013-12-05
I wish Opie wouldn't have sued him to oblivion, I really wanted to see that tape.
2 erockarmy 2013-12-05
It's still online, it's not Opie's girl tho, Bam and others have said it was some other model chick.
1 urabusxrw 2013-12-05
you have a link?
2 Motorboat_Jones 2013-12-05
Goddamn, I want to see that too. Opie's wife is really hot. Much too hot for his ugly millionaire ass.
6 ArkL 2013-12-05
He could have been a model!
3 Motorboat_Jones 2013-12-05
You've got me there. He does have a V.
4 Chip--Chipperson 2013-12-05
As far as millionaires go.. Opie isn't too bad
1 GleepGlorpFloopdedoo 2013-12-05
Can you not fucking read? It wasn't Opie's wife on the tape.
3 [deleted] 2013-12-05
I know Steve's wife personally. I went to high school with her. Steve's position was eliminated by management.
2 dazwah 2013-12-05
Also, how did East Side Dave get fired from Ron & Fez? Everyone seems to love him.
8 [deleted] 2013-12-05
he didnt get fired but he had to quit because it was too expensive for him to come in and do the show every day. He asked for a raise of almost double what he made at the time and Sirius XM couldnt make it happen so he left of his own accord. Sirius XM got the short end of the stick without even knowing it
5 Unshavenhelga 2013-12-05
He was looking for enough money to make his commute worth it. It was something like a $100 per month raise.
3 GleepGlorpFloopdedoo 2013-12-05
For a stunt boy? Overpriced.
2 Unshavenhelga 2013-12-05
Agreed. ESD wears thin fast.
6 hovanova 2013-12-05
Like other guys said, he was basically losing money to come into work from what I remember.
4 urabusxrw 2013-12-05
If I remember that one, he asked for a cost of living raise and they refused.
2 erockarmy 2013-12-05
The Steve C thing seemed really weird, no one really knows why he was let go b/c at first they blamed it on the company but other stuff from later seems like he was trying to make money off of early O&A material he had. I certainly don't think Sam and Erock are so devious that they had Steve fired so I doubt we'll ever know.
3 urabusxrw 2013-12-05
I don't know about that. Sam especially, seems like a tattle tale little shit.
2 erockarmy 2013-12-05
Yeah but I don't think he's capable of playing some machiavellian game behind the scenes that would lead to Opie professionally breaking with Steve unless there was a break coming already. From personal experience I can tell you tattle-tales are only effective if there's a rift already. Sam probably exacerbated things but he's not some political player. Which btw, is one of the big problems with the success of the show. They're great shit stirrers (like the weiner pic) but they're not good at playing "da game" like spending money for Publicists and PR people in NYC instead of relying on Bob.
3 urabusxrw 2013-12-05
Make no mistake, Sam is smart and knows the personalities on the show. Opie especially, one of the most paranoid people out there. If he plants that seed, Opie is gonna finish it off.

Travis kicked an intern in the groin, apparently, and was almost fired.
On Ben - there were apparently tons of times they had to save his job prior to him actually getting canned; it sounded like Opie went to bat for him more than once prior to that.
1 GleepGlorpFloopdedoo 2013-12-05
Travis should've been fired. For all the outrage over Troy calling Mark Zito a faggot on the aftershow, the fact that Travis was never fired for physically assaulting an unpaid student intern is just insane.
1 mancubuss 2013-12-05
Not only that, but the fact that O and A had to personally go to bat for him and he still can't even TALK on air!
1 jsimm043 2013-12-05
I actually don't know the full story; I wasn't listening at the time. Did Travis just straight out assault the intern, or was it part of a bit? He doesn't really seem like he has the temperament for the former.
2 LevelZeroZilch 2013-12-05
From what I understand, Danny & Than were cases of them not pulling their own weight.
Travis kicked an intern by the name of Blind Stevie (he had poor eyesight) in the groin & it was caught on camera. Blind Stevie's family pursued legal action and Sirius really wanted to fire Travis. Travis is only there because OnA fought as hard as they could to keep him.
4 urabusxrw 2013-12-05
danny was fired for being a douchebag in a meeting with a boss.
2 LevelZeroZilch 2013-12-05
It was the last straw. OnA will fight for you if they think you are worth keeping. Danny wasn't worth keeping
2 esdJellyJar 2013-12-05
Danny was just a douchebag, at all times.
3 Gene_Parmesean_PI 2013-12-05
Danny was fired after he won an internal lottery for tickets to some big show Sirius was hosting (I think One Direction). He got to bring a date and tried to bring either a hooker or a tranny. Management was pissed and either Bladder or Greenstein called Danny in their office to talk. Apparently Danny was such a dick in the meeting they fired him and told O&A there's nothing they can do to get him back.
1 LevelZeroZilch 2013-12-05
Yes, I know that story. And I feel it was the last straw. Travis got the company into a lawsuit and O&A could were able to keep him. I sincerely doubt they could not have kept Danny had they not wanted to.
1 present_day_memories 2013-12-05
Danny says the story O&A told is pretty far from how it actually panned out, but how much you can trust what he says I dunno.
1 Gene_Parmesean_PI 2013-12-05
Then what's his story? He has a new job and supposedly isn't in any legal action, why doesn't he say what happened?
I didn't hate Danny at all when he was on the show, but I find the story to be pretty believable.
1 present_day_memories 2013-12-05
Me too, but this is from oapedia.com...
On August 11, 2013, Danny, on his personal Facebook, gave insight on his firing from SiriusXM. He told a listener that O&A twisted the story and what they said on the air was not true. Danny says that he told SiriusXM that he was bringing an adult model. They asked how he knew his date. He said 'through the show.'
Danny was told at that point that he could still attend, but alone. He also said that the part of the story where he put his feet up during the meeting is not true. According to Danny, he was fired over the phone.
1 jags85 2013-12-05
Wow. They had to have paid Stevie off. Theres no other way you can get away with physical assault in the corporate environment. Any other info?
1 LevelZeroZilch 2013-12-05
Not much more info out there. For about a year, they weren't allowed to have interns as punishment.
1 rahtin 2013-12-05
Than quit to pursue stand up comedy, unless that was all for'da'show
1 mancubuss 2013-12-05
How did you know it was blind stevie and his parents tried to sue? Did they ever mention that on the show?
1 LevelZeroZilch 2013-12-05
Years later, yeah, it trickled out onto the show.
-10 opiesucks 2013-12-05
OPIE!!! they probably criticized his color socks or some minor shit.
2 Motorboat_Jones 2013-12-05
Goddamn, I want to see that too. Opie's wife is really hot. Much too hot for his ugly millionaire ass.
