It is certainly possible. Or, more likely, Howard isn't as popular as everyone thinks and they don't want HIS numbers to get out.

They probably keep the numbers private as a bargaining chip come contract time. O&A made bank on free fm because they could always point to Arbitron, which was also how corporate set ad rates. The data had to be respected, or there's no radio business.

Thus then, if O&A had (I'd say) within 15-25% of the mark Howard hits with numbers, it might hurt Sirius' stock recovery and take the momentum out of Howard's TV opportunities, as well. Media companies have a real interest in looking like they take care of talent—otherwise, their stable gets raided.

I mean its a satellite radio. There has to be something tracking what station you listen too. And aren't they on like only certain subscriptions so they get a better idea?

I personally believe O&A are kept off of Sirius to devalue them. The less subscribers they have, the less negotiating power they have come contract time.

The same could be said of Howard and XM, but the company may have done this to protect themselves from Howie's subscriber-based lawsuit.

Sirius sent me an email asking what channels I listen to, but that was several years ago. Maybe they still do this.

I don't doubt that Howard does have better numbers. Why wouldn't he? O&A do not get any promotion from the company. The only time I hear their names on TV is when Jimmy goes on Leno.

Howards face is on TV with that American Idol or X Factor show. Plus he does those other late night talk shows. The company loves him. Meanwhile, Sirius hides O&A like they are embarassed to have them. It's a shitty company handicapping the show.

I wouldn't count this as a victory. It costs the company nothing to promote on their own platform. It's the very lowest amount of effort they could put into promotion and still say they did something.

I don't think Sirius cares about promoting shows. All they want is subscribers they don't care what they subs are listening to as long as they pay their bills.
