He was smart enough to use his candy crush song as kind of a wrap it up music when the topic becomes too boring...that was smart of him.
As a person I don't really care about him, and personally would laugh at his tragically ironic death of dressing up like a cake and being stomped to death by Bobo trying to get a viral video.
He has his moments. When I laugh at something Ope says, its usually ignored because the other two are preoccupied or trying to get a word in too.
Opie is the captain of the ship. He guides what topics they discuss. Without him the conversations sometimes get off track, but that isn't always a bad thing.
Hes more of a support player, or point guard if you will. I don't understand the hate.
I agree, Sam's usually the only one who picks up on Opie's funnier comments. He is pretty funny when he's not trying too hard, as soon as he's consciously trying to make jokes or keep up with the other two he gets bad.
It's not the role he plays I have a problem with, or the relative absence of the ability to be funny. It's all the peripheral stuff, especially the annoying noises he makes. 3 categories of those: 1. Voices he puts on, usually a mocking tone or his more recent high pitched one. 2. Miscellaneous noises: singing, humming, grunting, etc. 3. Thumping or banging on the console. If you ever hear this, it's him doing it 100% of the time, never anyone else in the studio.
The first two are him just having a naturally retarded, awful, DUMB-sounding voice, worse even than sam's. He knows it and embellishes it, because trolling your audience is better than actually trying to entertain them (or at least, it makes him feel like less of a kiss-ass). The third one is a result of his anxiety and low blood sugar when he's thinking about transitions, segues, stalling, things like that.
It's not a good joke guy, he's not funny with jokes, but he'll suggest things every once in a while that lead to great bits. Isn't Jocktober Opie's idea? Think about that.
