Thought Ron was a little hypersensitive here. I think if Shelb was trying to take a shot he wouldn't have added the part about McCartney probably being too big to even meet the president.
Ant, Jim, and instigator Sam were all being hypersensitive as well. It's funny how catty they can be over essentially a nobody having a less than favorable opinion of their show.
I agree with him, actually. I love O&A, but it's not surprising they don't get big guests - it's the niche they've made for themselves. They're the underdogs that blow everything up. Opie always complains when they can't get guests, but they've really earned that. It's not like people personally don't like the show, it's just that they've established that they're not to be trusted. It comes with the territory.
The problem with that point of view is that you're coming at it from the self depricating O&A fan. We love the show and we get that they're the under dogs and all that stuff. We get it when Jimmy says "of course we didn't get him, why would we" because we're fans of them and we're "in on it." Shelby was coming from a dismissive angle of "why would he bother with their show, they're not worthy." Shelby just put his foot in his mouth here.
I thought Ron was totally kidding and fucking with him. Shelby is clearly a big fan of O&A, what with his Jim Norton crush. He was just saying that Paul McCartney is obviously a hard to get guest. I think he's just trying to freak out Shelby.
Ron will never shit on other shows on his station.
He did not do it when O&A were going after Don and Mike on WNEW. He would not entertain folks on the phone putting down Stern after he joined Sirius/XM.
Whether or not you think the boys were being sensitive and it's not a big deal or whatever, know this. He is on their channel. O&A have worked their way up to being one of the biggest shows in radio and they have their own satellite channel. Shelby is funny and he probably didn't mean to trash them by what he said, but he needs to know that he does have to have respect for these guys, if for nothing else because he's getting a tremendous amount of air time on their channel.
I didn't think it was necessarily a trashing, but it was definitely dismissive. An up and coming kid should not be dismissing the O&A show the way that he did. And he dug himself a hole with the second line about he'd eat his dick if they got McCartney on, completely missing the point about what Ron was pissed about. That clip of Ron a little later (posted by RupertRooksby) was exactly how I felt about it. Ron is a big name in radio in his own right and even he respects O&A.
Oof. Seems like he got a bit too comfortable with Ron and thought he could slip that one by. Glad Ron put him in his place, he needed to be knocked down a peg.
Shelby - "No. (chuckle) Why would he do OandA" and when asked why he would say that his retort was that OandA is "Not a Paul McCartney level show."
That was stupid. IF he would have replaced "level" with "type" he might have been able to recover. The worst part of it is that McCartney was there doing Stern. Boo!

I wouldn't call that a trashing. I think he was saying that McCartney is such a huge guest.
On the other hand, Ron was right to put him in his place.

Yeah I was expecting worse, too. He just got a little too comfortable and forgot where he is on the totem pole.

He didn't take a big shit on O&A. Don't be so goddamned sensitive. I think he's just saying O&A is too crazy for McCartney.

No-one is being 'sensitive' literal bobo, it's a joke, the up/down symmetry of shitting on O&A, shitting on his radio career.

Boy, did Ron brutalize him. And rightfully so.

There's no way Ronnie was kidding.

He understood what Shelby was trying to do, but from a Respect view... it was wrong of Shelby.

Right on point, Chip. (seriously)

I'd rather have a show sticking wiffleball bats in girls twats than one that can get Paul McCartney ffs
3 DrZoidberg42 2013-10-09
He was stupid for saying that. What time is McCartney going to be on O&A?

I'd like to see vacuumed vagina lips make good. He's a good kid.

Shelby just needs to learn that rule.

I miss that radio war with Don and Mike, good times

Carol Miller is possibly the best one.

I would agree if O&A didn't constantly bad mouth their Sirius XM execs.

I downloaded this on the app and I think they pulled this. Anyone know a general time marker this was at in the show maybe I missed it?
