I've had this idea for awhile - tell me if you guys would use this website or if it's a waste of time.

I was thinking of making a website that indexes all the O and A shows. It would have information like date, guests, conversation topics and show rating, which would be an aggregation of ratings given that day's show by the site's users. So if you wanted to listen to the highest rated Louis CK appearance, you could just search the database based on that criteria and find when that was. Or if you wanted to listen to Edgar (why god) you could search for that and get a list of which shows feature Edgar bits.
This would be a fair amount of work, so I want to know if anyone would be interested or if I'm duplicating efforts with anything else already out there or if the whole thing is stupid.

Sounds like a waste of your time - but hey - if you wanna do it, go nuts.

i'd bookmark that

Leave out the 'show rating', since that's subjective. Sounds like a Mark's Friggin but for O&A shows, which is def something I'd utilize daily. I'd imagine there are other fans that don't listen to the show live that would love something like this as well.

actually 'ratings' is not such a bad idea. it's sorta an indication of how funny a clip is based on popularity...

Exactly. If I want to hear a specific bit, I can search it. If I want to search another topic/guest I can select bits that the community has deemed "the best". A simple five star system like Netflix would be great.

Trouble is that popularity isn't a good metric for "how funny" something is. How funny something is is completely subjective and up to personal preference. In other words a comparison can only be made against other things an individual finds funny. The ratings can only indicate how popular something is based on it's popularity, which is how many people find something funny to be to some arbitrary degree. Unless you're interested in market analysis I don't see the value in ratings.

nahh I disagree..of course subjectivity determines the final choice .but come on, when there's a large group of people with a common interest the most popular stuff will probably be the best ones.and it's not like you HAVE to use it. so I don't know about you but I can't wait to go on this non-Existing site which probably won't ever be made.

I'm getting mixed reactions so far, but I think it would be a real resource, even after they're off the air. It would be a lot of work, both to build the site and then to populate it. I wish someone who gets it would just steal the idea, because I'm not looking forward to making it. Also, I get the impression that the people who are against it don't really understand what it is.

i guarantee if it has a nice clean layout a lot of people will use it, myself included. I can't stomach finding shit on wackbag anymore.

If it is similar to lovelinetapes.com I would use it all the time. You would probably run into Sirius lawyers though.

unless it has actual shows to download , which it can't , then I don't see it getting much use other than the novelty lookup of something.

As a newer fan who started listening around late 2010 It is tough to try and go through all the old shows and separate the stuff that was topical in 2006 but is not interesting now and all the great bits that stand the test of time. Plus, it is hard to keep up with references. I don't know how the "linger longer" thing started and I know so little about this "Ben" producer who was such a huge part of the show before he went out hating Opie like crazy. Also I want to know more about the production guy "Tim" who did those crazy voices and was able to finish productions based on bits they were doing on the current show before the current show was even over.

I would love to see an index like that with a great search engine.
There is a time at least once a week when I wondered when a guest was in or if so and so was ever on the show.

there used to be a daily rundown - may still be online
