American Degenerate is way better than Please Be Offended.

By far. I'm hoping Jimmy's career is finally turning a corner.

he really toned down the vulgar shit, it was surprising to hear that nick dipalo was changing his material because he was getting no real work besides stand up.

I think the vulgar stuff was sort of a crutch. It was brilliant with Monster Rain and some other bits, but it was sort of distracting in Please Be Offended, I'm not even sure I finished watching that special.

It's weird how much I enjoy Jimmy on the radio, but it's either hit or miss with his stand up. I'm definitely going to check out American Degenerate soon though.

He talks about NickDip in his set or he's actually in it?

Yeah Nick swoops down from the rafters half way through and then takes over the special. It's the little nugget at the end.

Yes. It wasn't as preachy and pseudo-intellectual as his earlier specials, more silly and absurdist. Gonna go out on a limb and say it was better than Louie's special.

I hated the last Louie special... is this blasphemy around here, or just in general reddit population?

Louis was hungry and had a lot to get off his chest during his recent uprising. That profundity that he exhibited might have been exorcised. I like his new special, because it showed a Louis that was relaxed and comfortable. He didn't become a caricature of himself like George Carlin. I think it was a bold leap, but a good one. It was fresh and different.

Love Louie's recent special to death.

Yea, I thought it was his best stand up special by far if you don't count his first one which was more funny cuz of the shock value of the schtick which has long since worn off for avid radio listeners who are familiar with jimmy's idiosyncratic proclivities.

Can anyone give me a quick rundown of the bits he used? I saw him in Syracuse a few months ago and it was wall-to-wall raunch aside from his misguided rant against the mentally ill.

I've heard Jimmy say he's really happy with this set and how it turned out but it wasn't for me. Maybe he's really evolving out of the offensive stuff and into more PG-13 territory and that's fine. Just not what I expected. Still love him and will continue listening to him on O&A, chasing him down on podcasts, and dying to go to a show when he comes back to Chicago.

I'd agree. I feel like a lot of his bits in Please Be Offended, while still funny, were based on current events at the time the special was shot, but by the time it was released, everything as dated.
