I heard the worst of the week countdown on terrestrial radio this morning...can someone help explain?

So I was on a major east coast interstate north of a medium size city (don't want to be specific because I don't want to blow up someone's spot) this morning and on the upper end of the radio dial was this weeks worst of the week countdown - they were discussing Erock dressing for the filming of the movie. I was able to listen for a span of 20 miles or so. I wondered if it was an FM modulator in a truck but I was passing vehicles and those have short ranges I thought.
Can anyone shed some light on this? If the group thinks its ok ill say more specifically where I was and exactly what frequency...I was worried it was someone's pirate radio and I didn't want to get them in trouble.

Folks, let's be cautious with all this shit. Clearly companies are onto these sites by now and use them as resources to find who/where stuff is being shared.

If you were pacing someone with an FM transmitter in their car, it's feasible. Some of the better ones can have up to a 50 - 70 foot radius with full signal, so 2-3 car lengths is well within range.
People hook them up to their MP3 player and put them in the seat next to them, broadcasting to their in-car radio. I could give you a link to the one we sell, but I don't want to advertise in the comments section.

Yeah, it has to be either an FM Mod or a pirate radio. I can't see an issue giving out the frequency, but I'm new to the group.

I'm a trucker, some of the older units were overpowered, those that weren't recalled will override local channels if on that frequency - most likely you were following someone with one of those units

I'm traveling the same interstate tonight on my way home so ill check on it again - if it's not there I'm assuming I was somehow following a fm transmitter for 20 miles.

My Siruis radio, which was installed using the dash-mount style kit, is connected through an AUX port, but I can often hear it on 88.1 FM, and that station comes in clear as a bell when I am scanning through the stations. My guess is someone driving near you may have had a similar set up, and you may have stumbled upon that broadcast.
