Actually the best part of this was the outpouring of respect and admiration for Patrice, outside of this community. People really got Patrice, and that's why he will always be a legend...
I fucking miss Patrice. I wish I never shook his hand and felt that power.
I've never told this story here, but I'll give the Cliff notes. I was in a shit relationship in the Navy, she was on duty, decided to wake up at midnight to drive to the city from Virginia Beach, sit in on the show. Got stuck in massive traffic, Patrice was there, switched out with Judah, shook his hand, asked him for advice, I told him shit relationship, he said fuck the bitch, shook my hand again, and walked off. I smoked a cig outside the studio and didn't give it much thought.
I felt it. I felt it when I shook his hand. He got it. He fucking did. He figured out life without the bells and whistles.
I miss Patrice. I am drunk. And sad.
I saw Jim Nortons Down and Dirty get taped. Luckily I saw Patrice close the one show. As I was leaving, the billboard said Carlin was playing the following weekend. I said I'll catch him next time, never got to do that. I hate when I am too lazy to do something and I never get the chance again. Sorry for your missed opportunity.
They were both great comics. I don't think the fact that Mitch did one liners diminishes what he does. Most top comics today agree that he was a genius and apparently he used to just kill.
They cut out the best part of his joke. About how he doesn't litter because he'll throw a coke can into a bush and it will land next to a dead body and then suddenly he's the pepsi-cola killer.
That's sad! Mitch is probably the most brilliant man on earth, the jokes he got is just small parts of himself written down, the dude behind and the fact that I still listen to it about 10 years later, is simply amazing.
This below is something I can listen to nonstop, the fact is that he puts his personality and energy into his show so much that he can ramble about ANYTHING and its still fucken hilarious. His delivery and style is just unstoppable, sure everyone dont like oneliners but thats the thing kindof, he was never topical, his jokes are still used to this date.
Yeah, one liners don't do it for me either. They are just mechanical comedy. I appreciate the talent that goes into making a good one liner, but good one liners are more of a "heh" than a "haha."

The best part is that everyone said that Patrice actually did this because that jail stint spooked him so much.

Be lucky you even met him man...I've seen Norton, Burr and CK live but I never got to see Patrice. Still regret it to this day.

He played the Stress Factory the weekend before his stroke. I stayed in and didn't go. Worst decision.

I did, however, get to see Carlin. Win some, lose some.

Carlin? That's cool and all but I got to see Ralphie May

I've seen Todd Glass.
4 JerryShepardini 2013-06-25
Todd? He's great and all but I also got to see Dat Phan last year.

That's nothing compared to the time I saw John Pinette.

I'm talking about the best part of the joke, Captain Downer.

Awesome, but comparing Mitch, a one-liner comic to Patrice or Greg Giraldo is shocking to me.
If Demetri Martin had died in 2005 I wonder if he's be equally so considered a genius and a legend.
Mitch is great when you're 15, but he seems so narrow to me now.

Is it?
It's not under other discussions.

Two legends meet!

That's good, but it doesn't show the complete bit.

I don't know why you're being downvoted; the joke in this image is really funny but doesn't have the actual punchline.
-5 [deleted] 2013-06-25
I'll probably get downvoted for this, but I never thought Mitch was funny. He's the stoners' Jim Gaffigan.
4 dazwah 2013-06-25
I like Mitch and Jim Gaffigan.

Go kill yourself.
I'm kidding.

Well, I downvote most of your comments, so why not?
