Did they ever end up talking about Paula Deen? Missed part of the show today.
They've been really pissed on Twitter about it, even more so now that she's been fired for using racial epithets once. And given their pontificating about political correctness, they probably should have mentioned it on the show.
She only used racial epithets once? Hmm. I don't see how it makes sense for food network to keep this broad if she is insulting half of her audience? I'm guessing a lot of southern black people eat that fatty slop she parades around as food.
She wanted "niggers" to dress up like plantation workers/slaves for her brothers wedding. Like Ronnie says, you can say whatever you want till it starts messing with the money. I really don't see it as some grand constitutional debate, it always comes down to money.
I am a southerner, it still isn't really taboo - not sure when it stopped being used - All in the Family used it as did Pryor
I'd give credit to George Carlin for pushing blacks to own the word - if anything, they seem to say it more than I ever heard any bigoted southerner use it
we may even be headed for a day when it loses it's power and becomes an ordinary word --- people 20 and under use nigga in a very informal and non-hateful way, it comes close to meaning compadre in the current vernacular
I tend to agree with you on some of your points, but we have to agree, this lawsuit/deposition coming forward does nothing good for food network. That's why her and he mayonnaise infused "food" is hitting the bricks.
as another corporation attempts to cover its ass and profits
as free speech becomes a thing of the past, I see George Carlin getting angry and thankful to be dead
I hear Sam Kinison laughing and saying at the top of his lungs "FREE SPEECH????? AHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! THEY TOLD YOU THAN ANY YOU BELIEVED IT AHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA"
Not to defend what she said, only the idea that soon, you will watch every word that passes your lips
I don't know why but I really do hear Sam laughing

yes that is true, plus as a person of that age, she grew up with the word - it has only been taboo for a decade or so to say it
I looked around late last night and she spoke an unspoken truth (which maybe she shouldn't have done) she said all, or most, Americans use that word
she'll be back, Oprah will redeem her, tears shed and the all new Cooking on Paula's Plantation will premiere on OWN
