Probably for Roland. Roland is the Booker for the show and I think when he came back the messing with guests kind of changed. Idk why he left originally, I think it had something to do with SXM and money, but when he came back is when I noticed kind of the same thing you did. I don't blame them, Roland gets a lot of great guests and has a lot of connections and doesn't want then messed up, and the boys want to keep Roland.
I would think in Roland's world, they are one in the same. How may times do you hear them say, "They said if we took A we would get B" Bottom tier people and top tier come from the same agency's, all go through Roland, and how you treat anyone is heard by other publicist and they take note for down the line. Also, this isn't 2000, or even 2004, they get really good guests now. Maybe as old school fans we like the way it use to be, but everyone has aged, from the fans to the boys, so things have changed accordingly. I'm sure they could still shit on people, but then they would only get the comedians who get it. With Louie a star, Patrice passing, Jay in Cali, Colin doing his stuff, and the others who have either been burned out or moved up, its not as easy to get those guys all the time anymore. I could be dead wrong, but I am only trying to provide a reason its happening, not choosing sides on which I like or would rather more,
I agree completely. If I want to hear a good interview i can listen to Ron and Fez or Unmasked. I would much rather listen to O&A bash someone than listen to them interview someone without any real depth. I guess interviewing celebrities is more interesting for them though, so I can see why they would rather do that.
I think the reason they don't is that it created the reputation that they always fuck with their guests which is why some celebrities still avoid the show because they think it's still the same O&A that will try and humiliate them.
Back in the early XM days it seemed like that's all they did since they had no actual good guests. I miss those days sometimes, everything seemed a lot simpler.

They don't fuck with guests or callers as much as they used to. That was comedy right there. Hanging up on callers, going to commercial, etc.
