Ron and Fez - Follow up thread

14  2013-06-03 by [deleted]

Some people may not care for this thread but it's more for the uninitiated of Ron and Fez. I posted a while back asking for people to point me to some great clips of the show.

Ronnie B is the fucking greatest. For anyone who doesn't listen, you need to start. It takes a bit to figure out the dynamics of the show and Ronnie's dry (really fucking dry) humour can go over your head in the early stages but once you start to pick it up - holy fuck! Pepper's awesome, Fez is a great punching bag/sympathetic character.

Again, I know I'm pointing out old news and the obvious to some people and I'm playing catch up. But for anyone who just listens to O&A and skips R&F. Don't. I'm fucking loving it.

Ron Bennington is the most interesting man in the world.

And I find myself liking the subjects they talk about on the show more than O&A. Ronnie (and pepper) knows his shit when it comes to movies and music. So it's nice hearing something more than Pearl Jam, Lady Gaga and STP-EEEE

I never really listened to the show before Fez got in his crazy stage, but I LOVE the awkward silences from him and the pure insanity of his life. Combine this with Ron the straight man and pepper the over the top drug addict and it's a great show.

I definitely enjoy R&F more than O&A at the moment. ron & Pepper are pretty consistently funny throughout every show. not laugh out loud funny all the time, but still funny.

Pepper has one of the best laughs.

totally different show than OnA, but just as good

One of the greatest AFRO moments has nothing to do with both shows, it's when O&A were discussing Fez having a meltdown on the show and the caller said,

"Well Ron asked why Fez didn't say anything about O&A making fun of his coming out on the air... and there was a bout 90 seconds of silence, which is pretty normal for a Ron & Fez break."

I normally skip R&F and listen on occasion but god damn; The level of guests is on another level, and they are so much more fucking with it. Been an O&A fan for years but as a white male in his early 20's you feel really out of touch sometimes. To hear Jimmy be like "WHAT IS THIS AVICIII I DON'T KNOWWWWWW", compared to Ronnie just riffing on Zach Braff and his kickstarter debacle is really refreshing.

Punchin out

yeah, it's pretty nuts how out-of-touch O&A&J really are with a ton of things. when I first started listening to The Virus, I though R&F was the old, uninformed people show.

Love Ronnie B. Its hard for me to listen to R&F at work, but when I do, it's great. Also love when Ron sits in with O&A, always a good show

I've been throwing some clips up on Youtube here and there, whenever I come across some. There's more good ones in /ronandfez.

I'm in the exact same boat, I started listening to clips a couple of months ago when someone posted the We Attack At 11 youtube clip and it had me howling. A few weeks ago I started listening to an hour or two of the daily show after O&A and it's really good. I'm really amazed at how quick Ronnie is and how well he puts things together in a super dry way, it's right up my alley.

How long did it take you to realize that Pepper Hicks was Chris Stanley's nickname, and not a wholly different person?

haha now that you mention that, yeah, that took me probably a month when I first started listening to R&F

Yeah that fucked me for a bit, I think I looked up who Chris Stanley was and it said Pepper and I was like "ohhhh." But yeah, Ronnie definitely has that thing that I identify in Patrice and Colin, in that I love listening to him hit a spot and you're like how the fuck did you get to that. Amazing re-listenability. With like everything great, it takes some getting used to but once it clicks you can't stop listening to it.

Here are a few of my favorites. If anything, find and listen to the Black Earl Special. Everything about that compilation of moments is hilarious.

YEAH DAWGSY! MY NIGGA PATRICK KANE SNORTIN THAT YAY

The one thing that completely separates the show is the way Ron incorporates callers, definitely follow the interrobang as well. Listening to that pyscho Paul o also never fails to make me laugh.

It's definitely an acquired taste but I love the show now. Ron is fucking hilarious in a way that I've never really heard before. He just has a certain way of saying shit that just gets me.

he's SO god damn quick

A good example of something that got me today was when they were talking about best tv shows. He takes a call and the caller goes, "Yeah have you guys mentioned Shield yet?" Ron's reply: "We haven't nor would we ever."

A lot of people could say that and it really wouldn't be funny. For some reason it's hilarious coming from him. He's just got this subtle..... thing that makes him so funny.

I love R&F but that show where Fez attacked the intern because he said "faggot" on his twitter really rubbed me the wrong way. I love how the listeners gave Fez shit but Fez barely shows up for his own show and it was really upsetting to hear him rip into that kid for that.

I hope Fez gets fired and Pepper takes over because Ronnie and Pep are great together.

Completely agree. I was a long time listener and never disliked Fez unlit that show a few weeks back. Totally changed the way I think of him now, that was basically the point where I realized he is a legit awful person. He never actually apologized to the kid either, and now he went back to being "angry fez"

It's happened. Work day: 1st up Ron and Fez in the morning. Opie and Anthony in the afternoon (and now not really a big deal if I don't get around to it.)

I love Ronnie, but I can't get past the frequent awkward silences and the constant mouth noises during them on every show I listen to.

The mouth noises, yeah. But the awkward silences are the fucking best, I was listening to an ep back in february when fez was talking about his dad dying and Ronnie would say some really heartless subterfuge line and then dead silence. It made me HOWL.

we get it

Actually that was more for people that didn't know it existed. Took me awhile to realize I should check to see.

I think R and F is one of the most unappreciated shows of all time. I'm such a huge fan of Ronny-- he's a comedian, philosopher, intellectual and can be so deeply brutal. I love it.
