I wish O&A would have more comedians in
8 2013-03-01 by stalecigarettes
Patrice is gone. Burr is on the west coast. Louis is busy with his stuff. Vos and Bobby don't do the show nearly as much as they used to (both have podcasts now too). They rarely have anybody new on though to fill up that void. It's New York. There's tons of young, funny comics. Kurt Metzger, for example, is someone I hope becomes a regular.
off topic: Donald Trump, Jr. is a fucking bore.

What about Jimmy? He's a comedian too, you know. Not just eyecandy.

Would like to see Soder in more. Also need more Attel. He's in like twice a year tops

Dan Soder is great.

I wish attel could be fourth mic.

Just don't get the overwhelming Attel love from almost everyone. I must be missing something. Sure he has a snappy line here and there, but that's all he does. Standalone zingers. He never really seems to get involved in the conversations and doesn't seem to have that back and forth rapport with O&A&J like all the best guests do.

I haven't heard him much on the radio, but he's a great standup.

A few years ago, management forced the show to stop booking the same comedians with frequency. It was referred to on air by Patrice, when he would say "see you in a few months", by Bob Kelly on his podcast, and I believe by Vos in his podcast. It's sad when the management wants to stick their hands into booking. It was to be one appearance maximum per month. So, the plugs went away and the appearances went away. Many of the regulars moved to the West Coast and/or are working on sitcoms. Roland has been booking terrific guest lately, so a by product is that the comedians are squeezed out. Seems like the rules have loosened up recently, yet the comedians are not let into the studio until half the show is over, unless one of the three hosts is out, only then they might get a shot early. It's like the crap Chiusano was pulling at KROK, pushing for less Jimmy, more Opie and Anthony only on the air.
Jay Oakerson is now a regular on Ron and Fez, so forget him. Naturman talked about his appearance at the Animation Festival and nearly getting booed off the stage doing his stand up in front of the O&A fans on the Comedy Cellar podcast, so don't expect him back. Roland has bragged on air several times that he has blocked Colin Kane and Jackie Martling from being booked anymore because they are pains in the ass.

Jesus. fuck management.
I completely forgot about how annoying Jackie was. thanks, Roland.

Colin Kane is a hack.

To think that those cunts deprived people of just one minute of Patrice is sickening.

yeah, that was cool. I forget what roast he was on, but I remember he killed.

My favorite shows are definitely the ones with comics in, but I don't think O&A can get a lot of blame for the fact that they're aren't more. They made clear they want Colin in more (and have talked in the past how many times they've booked Keith and had him cancel). DiPaolo can just now come back on. I do feel like there's attempts to get new guys in - like Dan Soder, who's a funny dude. And they do have DeRosa in a lot - who seems like a great guy and I like, but isn't really the Patrice/Burr/Colin kind if guy who'll give phenomenal shows every time (he's fantastic when there's a great comic in with him - like the Patrice bit with Bobo that just got posted).

to be fair you can't just replace Burr and Patrice. They are/were top tier comics.
1 jsimm043 2013-03-01
Totally agree.

Colin is amazing, I wouldn't mind him being in more.

Good luck. They've been trying for 7 years ago to drag that hermit out of his cave...

Podcasts. They have lost them all to podcasts.

I loved the two or so times Ricky Gervais came on, especially when him and Louie were on together. It would be great to see them both.
Also Otto, Jay Mohr, Dave Attel, and Colin need to come in more. Jim Jefferies is another one I miss.
4 [deleted] 2013-03-01
Fuck Ricky that arrogant, condescending faggot.
3 yankee4357 2013-03-01
I know Jim Jefferies is busy with his new show and new kid, but I drop everything anytime he is in studio.

No one can replace Patrice O'Neal. He was the greatest comedian O&A had on over the years. I'd like to hear more Jefferies, Dipalao, and Quinn. Derosa fucking sucks. Kelly, and Vos usually have good appearances.
1 [deleted] 2013-03-01
Derosa suffers from the same problem Vos does. He totally loses self confidence and then it just gets worse, except the show already has a Vos.

They mentioned Dan Naturmann recently when discussing the Tom Papa party. I wish they would have that creep on. He might start off slow, but I could see him becoming a good regular.
1 stalecigarettes 2013-03-01
He was on once and I remembered him being really unfunny.
2 stalecigarettes 2013-03-01
that was many years ago though.
1 Slippery_Slope_Guy 2013-03-01
Yea, I'm actually looking him up on youtube right now and it's meh. I just remember him being really funny on Last Comic Standing 6 or 7 years ago.

I saw him at the cellar once and he bombed SO hard. I can't take him seriously anymore. Even though I know everyone has bad sets I still can't erase it from my memory.
5 [deleted] 2013-03-01
Even Chris Rock bombs at the Cellar.
2 Bobosgenitals 2013-03-01
I really wish Otto would come in more.
3 mancubuss 2013-03-01
LOVE Otto. I want to see him live so bad but he plays the weirdest places
2 [deleted] 2013-03-01
I wish Rick Shapiro was still in New York. I'd LOVE to hear him come do 4 hours.
2 [deleted] 2013-03-01
Where is he now?
1 [deleted] 2013-03-01
He moved out to L.A. Kinda sucks. Honestly, I think Jimmy should get him for Anti-Social. He's one of my all-time favorite comics.
2 SpaceEdge 2013-03-01
They have had a shitty comic on a few times. Colin Kane he blows.

on a side note, i hate what happened to ykwd. bobby and derosa was great, even just soder and kelly fastuca is good, but now its just 15 unidentifiable voices talking over each other
2 [deleted] 2013-03-01
I want to hear Nick Dipaolo talk about leaving the show he had with Artie Lange.
2 TankRizzo 2013-03-01
yet another thing the merger fucked them on. When they were on XM and had comedians in the comedians were allowed to cut promos that they would let air all week. Since the merger they put an end to that and want the comedians to pay for that, so now the only exposure they get is when they're on and opie let's them plug their gigs. It's quite shameful, but that's Mel Karmizan for you and part of why FM went to shit.
1 omgwtfitssteve 2013-03-01
lemme drop some opinions on comedians
a lot of the guys O&A fans think that are "new blood" that would bring "new life" into the show like Dan Soder or Kurt Metzger really aren't that interesting imo. you can hear plenty of Dan on the ykwd podcast and that shit got old fast. and whats with suggesting all these mid-level comics anyway? Jay Oakerson? Dan Naturman? are you kidding me. none of these guys really have the charisma the regulars had when they were younger, the old days of having a rotation of really solid headliners are long gone.
i wouldnt mind more attell even though it seems like half the audience doesn't get him (kinda like his live shows now) and nick dipaolo will be good in a pinch until he turns it into conservative talk radio
my wish: Hannibal Buress
-2 DonBaken 2013-03-01
yes no more fat bob kelly and no more joe no shoulders derosa.
2 [deleted] 2013-03-01
Fuck you.
1 [deleted] 2013-03-01
Derosa suffers from the same problem Vos does. He totally loses self confidence and then it just gets worse, except the show already has a Vos.
