I was cringing today when Ant was trying to explain the difference between an asteroid and a meteor. As usual, the old man was being quite "cocksure" while being wrong.
He was saying that an asteroid is a meteor while it's in space and once the asteroid enters orbit it's a meteor.
An asteroid is comprised of ice and isn't a meteor. A meteoroid is a rocky object in space. Once it enters the atmosphere it's a meteor. Once it impacts the ground it's a meteorite (he got that correct when someone called him wrong).
He wasn't too far off - but he's so deadset on that he's correct that it was a little cringeworthy when he was off.
