Not really rumor, Nick felt Artie was using again and left becuase he doesn't want to be associated with it, or go down with Artie when he does go down.
Although it may be a good theory, it is not fact based on any interviews or reports. So yes, you just spread a rumor.
The only thin info we have is from Artie's mouth during his podcast when he stated that Nick wanted to bring more politics into the show and he (Artie) isn't smart enough for that stuff so he wished Nick the best on his future endeavors.
Who knows if that info is true or not, or if it could be your rumor of drugs, but that is all that is out there other than generic news reports of Nick wanting to pursue other opportunities.
If Nick thought that Artie was using, then Nick leaving would make sense. Who wants to work with a junkie? It would be kind of hard to kick Artie off of his own show for being a junkie.

That doesn't really make sense. Quitting a job (that you worked for) because someone else may be doing drugs doesn't make much sense.
Who wants to work with a junkie?
People who need money. People who want to be famous. Stern.

Well, it's their show, not his show. And of course it isn't. They work for various radio stations, and DirectTV. I'm sure somewhere in a contract is a clause that allows someone to drug test him, or if he's creating an unsafe work environment they can certainly suspend/fire him for that (like when he pissed in the trash can).
It doesn't make sense that Nick would voluntarily leave the show because he was scared that Artie would relapse, since he would basically be creating his own worst case scenario.
Your whole post doesn't make sense. You have no idea what their contracts say, or who they work directly for. If the rumor about Artie's drug use is true, then Nick did what he felt would be best for himself, and for his friendship with Artie. If Nick stayed around, he would end up resenting Artie for his drug abuse and would end in a big blowup, ruining their friendship forever. Instead, he took himself out of the situation and probably said something to Artie in private about taking care of himself.
I imagine Artie can be a pain in the ass to work with, sober or wasted. I've even heard Jim Norton hint at it before. I don't listen to the show, and I'm not a fan of Artie but if Nick left because Artie was using why did the networks give Artie the show? So I doubt Artie is using again.
But for Nick to leave a good gig like this and to not talk about it there must of been major differences.

How is that not a rumor? He hasn't discussed it with anyone yet.

That's the definition of rumor.

I heard Nick wanted to infuse more of a fox news feel and Artie wanted none of it.

Their last show had the atmosphere of Peter Cook & Dudley Moore's "Get the horn" reunion show. You could tell it's over.

As a licensed clinician with specialized addictions training -- Artie is back on the juice.
