What's the best iPhone app for playing the downloaded show?

I use something called Total Downloader right now to play mp3s of the show. It is incapable of saving my spot it in a 3 hour mp3 if it decides to close or crash, unlike podcast apps which always remember your place.

I've tried different ones, they all have the same problem, since I think they are expecting you to just listen to songs or watch short videos etc, not listen to multi-hour mp3s.

This is what I do;

  • download the show
  • add to iTunes
  • right click track "get info"
  • change "album artist, artist and album" to "O&A"
  • click the tab "options"
  • change media kind to audiobook and make sure "remember playback position" is checked off

the show is now an audiobook and will play through your "music" app and will remember your spot and you'll be able to do a quick 15 second rewind if you missed something. the "podcast" app sucks.

This is exactly what I did, by far the easiest and best way to listen to MP3s of the show on an iPhone.

I use Downcast. I import the mp3 from Dropbox. Playback position syncs over iCloud too.

Downcast is fantastic. It's by far my favorite app for managing podcasts. You can also download mp3/m4a's directly from Ted's. It saves the position, includes gestures, etc.

Dropbox is good, iTunes works fine as well, I found apps can have issues with files that big. I use hulkshare to stream, on my Galaxy S III it doesn't ever lose its spot, and I can start it from wherever I want. (Shameless plug coming) I also upload the new shows daily at oareplay.com to hulkshare, fyi.

Download the mp3s directly into the app. Plays and hold my spot perfectly. Can even unzip files and spoof a firefox browser for any un-mobilized sites you may encounter.

Get a Samsung Galaxy 3.

True.
