The Final Word on O&A Piracygate 2013
50 2013-01-29 by [deleted]
- SiriusXM/Liberty lawyers are here to stay.
- Sharing bits/clips is okay
- Sharing full shows, specifically new ones is not.
- The internet is a thing
- You are going to have to be more subtle and covert from now on.
this info comes second-hand from me reading the guy who runs a certain huge archive's twitter (and the Op-ster himself), so I figured I would relay it here. take it as you will.
It seems like most of the panic is because I voluntarily deleted my videos and closed my channel, but much like him, I gotta cover my ass. Anyway, it's pretty much what I figured how it's gonna be from here on out. people straight up posting the entire show ruined it, but i probably crossed over into that territory plenty enough to deserve part of the blame. so now you know.

Probably a little light in the loafers/mo

But of course, we don't know.

And not that there's anything wrong with that

Fair enough, sir. Fair enough.

Add this Steve. "The lawyers may be light in the loafers, or moas. Or qwebs or quays."

This will never not be funny.

Lol he's badass and will continue posting links publicly.

i still love you

I just wish there was a way to subscribe to JUST the show without having to pay a arm and a leg.
I'm dropping by sub soon and there are no other cheap options. I'd gladly pay 5 or 6 a month just to be able to download past shows.
6 i_wanted_to_say 2013-01-29
$15/mo is hardly an arm and a leg. Granted, if it goes up again I'll likely drop it.

Seeing as how they have like 10-15 mins of commercials, its kina high
2 darthbrutal 2013-01-29
You could buy a 12 month audible sub, it can be a bit late http://www.audible.com/pd?asin=B002V9Z7KQ
1 flaystus 2013-01-29
I've looked into that. It saves.... DOLLARS over keeping my current sub. Its way too expensive.
1 247world 2013-01-29
is it real audio that host old shows? - about $10 a month
1 flaystus 2013-01-29
oh it must have fallen a bit, thats not a bad price
1 justinferrell 2013-01-29
I only pay $77/ year. It's not that expensive. Plus, the Pearl Jam channel is worth the money.
Just call and haggle with them.
1 flaystus 2013-01-29
Maybe I need to call because I pay like almost $50 every 3 months!
3 zenlogick 2013-01-29
Good. Only tech savvy people who can find shit on their own deserve full shows. The rest of you fucks who leech off people who post shit can go to hell. You are the ones fucking shit up.
If you want full shows, learn how to find them, and dont go the quick easy route. The quick easy route gets shut down quickly and easily.
13 [deleted] 2013-01-29
FUCKING THANK YOU!
I was an on and off xm subscriber between 2005 and 2008. The cost of the service became ridiculous. I've had zero trouble pirating the show since, and hadn't even heard of all of these youtube uploaders until all of this bullshit with the lawyers started. Stop posting full shows to youtube/publicly accessible sites and you will not have any problems!
There are live streams/dedicated torrent sites with RSS feeds out there, use google and stop whining.
11 [deleted] 2013-01-29
relax, people are just trying to listen to a radio show
1 andrewsj1 2013-01-29
Lol. Do u think hes all worked up?
2 sonofarex 2013-01-29
I remember when they were always on demonoid before it shut down. Would a private tracker help? I use iptorrents, it's pretty rare that anything gets taken down there
11 tehjarvis 2013-01-29
Starting a private, invite only, non US hosted tracker who's name has nothing to do with O&A and is NEVER MENTIONED on here would be everyone's best bet...only send invites to reddit usernames who have been on the subreddit for awhile via PM and if anyone leaks any info about it, ban them from the tracker and subreddit with prejudice.
3 [deleted] 2013-01-29
and lets meet in a basement and fight each other
3 sonofarex 2013-01-29
I like that idea. I actually pay for subscriptions on 2 separate radios but I still download the occasional show just out of convenience
1 QballDude 2013-01-29
Same here. I Pay for 3 subscriptions and the online package. But downloading is just more convenient.
2 [deleted] 2013-01-29
Loving this idea.
2 [deleted] 2013-01-29

2 Lipidro 2013-01-29

2 badmotherfucker1969 2013-01-29
I also agree
1 [deleted] 2013-01-29
already out there
1 bleachmartini 2013-01-29
Signed up for a torrent site like this and never got an approval email on my site. I'm active with a few private trackers if ratio proof is needed. If something like this comes up please keep me in mind.
1 tehjarvis 2013-01-29
If it were up to me, time would be spent monitoring the sub for long time members and more consistent posters, and then a mass upload of everything everyone has...perhaps with a checklist to fill in gaps for shows, focusing on certain times. "okay...everyone find what you can of April 2010."...but then again I'm not in a position to actually get this thing running. I just don't have the knowledge. I'd be willing to help any way I can though.
1 bleachmartini 2013-01-29
Yeah neither am I, in a position to get anything off the ground. I listen to one or two shows a week while in the car and I don't archive. Had a sub, but car doesn't have built in sat, listening through the phone blows, never really used any other station, and I felt like I was paying for a 20 min commute a day that a good portion of was a show break, so I cancelled. A show or two a week is great for me, I pick the content I want to hear, listen to the entire show without interruption, an do so on my time. I wish there was an on demand business model where I could pay $5 a month or so and dload the show when I want, break free, as a digital file. I would even be fine with being a day or two behind the live show. I don't know, I support the show, but I'm not paying for the service again... I tried that, it doesn't work for me. I guess if all alternative avenues are shut down I just wont catch the show, which would suck, I listen for the honesty of the content and the no BS hoakie interviews.
1 [deleted] 2013-01-29
sounds like your a perfect candidate for Audible.com. they put up the shows later in the day but you can buy them on a per show basis.
1 bleachmartini 2013-01-29
Hmmm? I will check that out, it would be nice to have a solution to fit my listening habits. Thanks.
1 NefariousBanana 2013-01-29
I already know of one.
I'm not going to mention who it is.
0 your_message_here 2013-01-29
I was thinking of something just like that in the shower this morning, genius. Proving you're not a lawyer by invite and checking your account history and involvement in the sub.
2 seeenheeen 2013-01-29
thanks for the postings anyway
2 descendents1 2013-01-29
I'm SO GLAD I listened to all the Patrice shows before the takedown. Those were some of the greatest interviews and commentaries I've ever heard.

I had planned to download them all on my vacation --- damn, just damn

thank you
2 danfrank 2013-01-29
Steve, you're a god amongst men and played a huge part in bringing the show to the masses (myself included).
They've already talked about transitioning the show to a web-based platform, but this should be the icing on the cake. I'd imagine that, in the past few years, file-sharing has done way more to increase the audience than any legit marketing or SXM promotion. Let's just hope that when October 2014 rolls around that the boys still have the desire and motivation to keep the show going and transition to the web.
2 [deleted] 2013-01-29
How do we get approved for a certain torrent site? I signed up but haven't been approved yet. Anyone?
1 iamfromreallife 2013-01-29
I don't understand the reluctancy of people to automatically record the show themselves on their pc. It's the easiest thing on the world and it's not like live streams don't abound on the internet. I've been doing it for more than a month and to date, not a single failed recording.
1 SoulSonick 2013-01-29
how ?
2 iamfromreallife 2013-01-29
http://www.reddit.com/r/opieandanthony/comments/14ws8v/tutorial_automatically_record_the_show_everyday/
1 247world 2013-01-29
my problem is I have a sub and an ino - however sometimes I still miss a day or here lately almost 3 weeks - been tough getting all the shows and due to my job live streaming isn't an option
1 iamfromreallife 2013-01-29
You don't have to live stream, you just have to set up your pc at home once to wake up at 6, start recording the show until 10, create a nice mp3 and then turn off or sleep again. It's easy to do, the tutorial is right above, just use one of the many streams that are available to make your recordings.
1 247world 2013-01-29
wish I could, as a trucker it isn't that easy - my wireless modem will disconnect after a certain period of time idle - oh for a regular life
1 [deleted] 2013-01-29
fair summation of the current status. cheers
1 [deleted] 2013-01-29
Wait, did something happen?
1 Landeyda 2013-01-29
No matter what the lawyers do it will be easier to get the show nowadays then it was 10+ years ago. Back then you had one or two sites with dodgy FTPs that only sometimes worked.
And if an web admin got pissed for some reason (like the boys making fun of him...) they could take down the entire archive.

Good job, Steve.

I kinda figured this wasn't SiriusXM's move, rather it was a Liberty Media move. New ownership, to me, would be more likely to bend to a complaint then SiriusXM - you'd think that after years on the radio someone would've bitched about something the guys have said. Now, a few days after the Liberty takeover this happens.
Makes sense in a business sense, but I see and agree with Opie's point. Give a taste and the new fans will come running.
1 TankRizzo 2013-01-29
save us Kim Dotcom, you're our only hope
1 jmal2000 2013-01-29
I think I had listened to every single Patrice episode twice already. It's too bad. I was just getting around to listening to the other guests, like Louis or Colin.
I remember someone mentioned they had the entire package once on a torrent. If someone has that, I will personally go through all your post history and upvote all your posts.
1 HANKKKINGSLEY 2013-01-29
Why did you take down the Fat Bob Kelly and Colin Quinn podcasts down? I am positive I had at least 20 views of each video.
1 iluvdogshit 2013-01-29
Op personally gave me this information as well. As, such I password protected my entire archive and removed all of the full shows from my site. If people want access, they know how and where to find me.
1 [deleted] 2013-01-29
I was listening to the O&A ep when Louie's on talking about his routine on Conan being taken down just before he is about to pop back in 2009/2010. It's so funny to listen to it and see the parallels to the current predicament SiriusXM is having with O&A. I know it's been mentioned before, but those dumb management type really don't understand that this is selective marketing being done for them at no price. People are more inclined to buy into the O&A brand and their product in the jaded internet age because they will already know it, and it was done at no price. Can't remember the exact quote, but it reminds me of when a general was asked how he lost the war and he said "their generals weren't as inept as our generals."
