Sirius Lawyers cracking down on show uploads.

46  2013-01-24 by [deleted]

From Timmycakes88's latest youtube video description "This Might be it for your Old Pal :("

Yesterday I received quite an unsettling youtube message from someone claiming to be a laywer for SiriusXm. The jist of the message was take down all O&A related content, yadda yadda. I googled the name and, indeed, this person is a laywer. So I took it upon myself to call this person this youtuber claimed to be to make sure. Indeed this is the real deal, folks. The VERY nice lady told me SiriusXM is cracking down on us uploaders and that I am not the first, nor the last, she will be contacting (but not so ominously).

As a result, ALL the hulkshare and sharebeast link have been taken down and disabled by those websites' owners. I thought maybe it was some sort of scare tactic by the haters, but like I said, this is/was for real.

SO, my friendly friends, I think another O&A torch must be extinguished. You know I love you all and wouldn't abandon you unless I felt this was legitimate. I will be taking down all the FULL SHOW links, as they are somewhat useless at the moment heh. As for the show clips, those must unfortunately be taken down as well :(

I only ever wanted to spread the JOY that is the O&A show, but I guess that just isn't in the cards anymore. Youtube may have seen the last of the Show, my friends. It's only a matter of time before they come a-knockin on your youtube door! Until then, have a wonderful life and thank you for forever and a day for being the best!

This really sucks. It's one thing to take down full show uploads from new episodes but old shows and archives? This is how O&A get promoted and make people support the show.

I think if we all contacted Opie, Anthony and Erock on Twitter they might be able to do something about this. What do you guys think?

Edit: I messaged Erock about this, asking if there's anything they can do about it, and he replied: "Nada. They own it. You'll have to pay for it like everyone else."

Full shows being put on Youtube, I could understand them being removed...but clips? I would NEVER have gotten addicted to OnA shows if it wasnt for all the classic clips on youtube. Im pretty sure its their #1 promotional tool right now, and its free. I dont get it.

[deleted]

But it's the full show uploads that probably make them take a closer look at people posting clips to begin with. Yes, it is stupid for them to be cracking down on random clips that they wouldnt make money off of anyhow, but lets not act like people weren't just completely stealing the show without a hint of incentive to pay for it. Those people drew more attention to uploading content than anything, I'm sure. You can't knock Sirius for trying to protect its product.

I used to pay for it but the xm website was shit and the recording was bad and took to long to be uploaded. The free versions were actually of better quality

Audible let's you download it as a podcast directly in iTunes. I actually have trouble listening to old pirated shows that I have because the quality is so much better on audible. Each day's show is usually up by mid-afternoon.

The quality from where I get it is good plus its up before noon central time

But it's the full show uploads that probably make them take a closer look at people posting clips to begin with.

I personally think you have it backwards. A guy who sees a random clip called "Opie and Anthony - Jimmy hates Canada" that lasts like 2-3 minute is much more likely to listen to that then some other video that lasts 3+ hours. Im pretty sure people who learn of OnA on Youtube start with the random 10-15 minute clips and eventually move on to finding the full show clips.

I can confirm my route to O&A was: Louis CK -> what else has he done? -> What are these clips, Rumsfeld is a Lizard? -> Who are these guys, is this radio? It can't be! -> Listen to all the Louis CK stuff -> eventually start listening to O&A only -> Listen to all the clips I can -> Now I'm a freeloader listening to full shows. Whole process took about a year. I started listening in the UK, now I live in Canada so I guess I have no excuse not to sub to Sirius.

that's exactly how i ended up here

For me it was likw 2005-06, searching random Louis CK clips on Youtube and random OnA clips, mostly Louis CK though....then all of a sudden I saw the Louis CK clip on OnA when he talked to Bill Donahue about Lucky Louie.

"Wait wtf, Louis and OnA know eachother?!"

Then I just listened to everything I could find about Louis and OnA, then just OnA.

I meant that the full show clips are the ones that caught Sirius's eye and clued them in on a potential problem to crack down on. I'm not at all against short clips for the exact reason you just typed out.

I live in Sweden and that's the only way I can listen. Feelsbadman.

Finnish brother in arms feels your pain.

haven't heard shit yet, but i never expected anything from my channel other than a nice c&d or termination anyway

yolo

Sounds like somebody doesn't give a care. With that attitude you might just land yourself in the county jail, bub!

i can't believe your channel is gone. the saddest part is you probably had the most complete anthology of patrice oneal's genius available anywhere. he's never going to be on the show again, and I doubt his complete appearances will be released anywhere, besides maybe broadcast on some random weekend. Good idea liberty media or whatever decided to do this, making it nearly impossible to find new fans is a great business model. pretty much any time i've heard someone say how they got into o n a, it was from listening to louis ck on youtube, and getting hooked on o n a. now what, word of mouth and maybe being in someone else's car is going to lead to people buying a subscription to satellite radio without knowing the show first? what a bunch of shitdicks

Is there a torrent avaiable with all the patrice shows? I got all the louie ones but i was like "ill download it later" But looks like ive run out of time :S

Shit man, saw what happened to your channel. Thanks for all the shows, it was awesome while it lasted.

Noooooooooooo

I know it's hack in this community to say this, but honestly, thank you for your service. If the show ran out and I had an hour or two left at work, I'd typically listen to your clips.

[deleted]

This is so dumb. These big companies never realize that they are shooting themselves in the foot with this shit.

I'm pretty sure O&A will be powerless to stop this

I'm pretty sure THEY use youtube to find some of their old stuff to play on the air...

HELLO EXACTLY

I'm not suggesting anything illegal here, but hypothetically it would be cool if there was a theoretical code word that would direct alleged mp3 downloaders to a supposed website, wherein all of these so-called pirates could continue to enjoy listening to audio files without any external forces trying to intervene. Is there any chance that this type of club could be put together, maybe through the teamwork of a certain dedicated online message board? In theory, that would be an enjoyable thing.

This is hypothetically a great idea. Allegedly

I can't wait until satellite radio goes under for it's terrible and unrealistic business model and the b-b-boys start podcasting.

Honestly I think they go their separate ways after satellite goes down.

And ant does an hour every three days with Jim once a week and opie does 8 hours. A morning show and an afternoon drive with Sam.

hahaha.

Agreed 100%.

Free O&A for all! Timmycakes88 was a true homie in the struggle for free media. This crackdown shit will last the next week. Hopefully it doesnt scare others from following in Timmys footsteps.

Why are people downvoting you? Don't worry, others will be willing to carry the torch. I wish I could just pay some small amount to download an mp3 of O and A daily, but since I can't I have to pirate. I don't want or need a subscription to satellite radio, I have no interest in the rest of their catalog and that makes the price not worth it. Only way they get me to pay for one is if they successfully close all the free avenues down(which they won't), then I'd be the one uploading. Won't puss out to some cunt corporate lawyer either.

Same. I ONLY like opie and anthony & after shows/jimmy show. And i like being able to pause and pick up where i left off.

There is the Audible service. Only two drawbacks are that they're not usually available until about 5 PM later that evening, and that when a Worst Of episode is playing on the radio, they don't serve that up, just a random episode from the past year. Price comes out to approximately 65 cents a show.

[deleted]

Yes.

Occasionally, someone screws up and uploads a show twice under another name, but its up relatively quick.

How about that time when Opie and Ant got in that fight about the grapes and XM cut it out of the replay. I think the audible show was the same as the replay. A Tommy Chong interview. That kind of thing scares me about relying on the audible option. When they finally blow it up I want to hear it.

Yeah the service blows, wish they'd do what the pirates are doing and upload the episode drm free immediately after airing. When you average out the price it doesn't seem so bad, but it's still several hundred dollars per year. Far above what I am willing to pay considering I won't be listening to any of the other content on Sirus. I'd gladly toss 'em 20-30 bucks per year, but that's about it. Maybe down the line they'll ditch satellite and go towards a podcast model, that would be epic. Still plenty of money to be made for the boys and they don't have to worry about shitty executives with dated business models holding them back.

It's still not in your $20-30 range so fuck me but a 12-month subscription to the show through audible is $70 (less I think if you're a member). It's not flawless but it's been a good way for me to listen at work.

That's not too bad, is it a stream or are you able to grab an mp3 file? If you can grab an mp3, is it drm free?

They have .aa file format with drm, unfortunately, but it sounds pretty easy to convert them to drm-free mp3s. more info

Yeah why pay for something you enjoy? That's an insane idea, right?

I want to pay, but I am not spending 200+ dollars a year for a service I won't use for anything but O and A. Believe me, I like paying for content I enjoy, but I will not support shit business models.

They are probably downvoting him cos a) he sounds queer when he talks about 'true homies', and b) everyone else knows that Tim spent all last year pretending the files he downloaded from GTAJ were his recordings, and then started this year doing the same with Ted's recordings. Regularly deleting YouTube comments and blocking users who asked why he pretended he was doing anything and just not being honest. Fuck 'im.

yous the queea pal. i hope i get 1000 downvotes. who gives a fuck

We just need daily uploads to trackers like kat or pirate bay. there's zero you O&A lawyers can do, you hear me? Lol, good luck Lawyers; if Hollywood can't stop us, Sirius xm has no chance.

[deleted]

Oh and also it's pretty obvious that liberty media is behind this. I'm sure that going after online clips was one big red flag for them when they were taking over.

This is silly, i never would have discovered o&a if it wasnt for youtube clips of their show

How do you listen to O&A now, Moh7?

I pay money every month to listen everyday

[deleted]

You should keep these kind of things to PM. Reddit isn't exactly a low-profile website.

what is this?

A link to listen to the live shows replay and classic o&a open with vlc or winamp etc

Funny how half the O&A show is listening to them watch youtube clips.

First assault weapons and magazine limits, now OnA? what's next that'll get taken away? blowjobs?

They played clips of their old show off youtube on the 1/23/13 show. I think reaching out to them will absolutely bring it to their attention. It will at least give them something to bash Gary on again.

I remember an episode with Louis ck complaining about how NBC took down clips of him on Conan on YouTube. Opie agreed it was dumb and they praised letterman/CBS for allowing it. Opie would def get involved.

I got the same email and i ONLY have clips posted. fuck liberty media coming right in and screwing over O&A. I understand them not wanting full shows up but clips is just crazy. my videos are full of comments from people thanking me for introducing them to the show.

What a bunch of short-sighted retards. From a business standpoint, this is stupid.

[deleted]

i took it down because it certainly would have been terminated if not worse for me. i have a full backup of the good stuff as i edited it, gonna lay low and see what to do with it. maybe nothing.

Steve, I can't thank you enough for all the shows you put up. I listened to the Patrice series at least 2 or 3 times a week. I don't know what I'm going to do without it.

[deleted]

[deleted]

How about making your account and all videos private, and needing an invite to view it?

Or isn't there a setting on YouTube now that stops it from being visible on a search so you'll need a direct link to get to it?

And there's another setting where you're only able to view it when it's embedded on one site... on the comedy website I work for we did an online exclusive premiere for a comic's special over the summer, and you had to view it on our website, but it was a youtube video.

nah all that shits dumb, if anything itll be in the cloud for everyone to add to their mobile device like a podcast, shoutouts to my nigga kim dotcom

Kim Dotcom is also my nigga. And so are you steve. So are you.

In the cloud with all of it.

turn into a square shape clewd

I love you so much steve. (very much homo)

Why not throw a torrent of all of it up on the pirate bay? They'll wipe their ass with a C&D letter.

[deleted]

I owe you a BIG thanks. Those Patrice vids really made him live on. Since your channel went down, his death became real.

I understand what people mean when they say "...live on in your work".

Considering Patrice is gone, for his audios, you NEEEEEDs to make a TORRENT!

Help us omgKenobi, you're our only hope!

Thanks for the uploads man. I think its been asked already, but dou you have any plans on making this torrent-able?

SiriusXM Execs and legal can go suck a fat bag of ass for this.

Thanks for everything Steve.

@astupidfuck on Twitter.

He has some of them on MP3s, I'm sure he'll cook something up.

[deleted]

I do not always drive around for four hours everyday, so like to listen to some online. If I cannot do that, I feel like I get "behind" in the show and quite honestly will probably stop listening and just drop XM. Too bad, I have listened to O&A since I was a kid listening to WAAF.

spreadtheO&Avirus is now dead.

FUCK. We may have to get Uncle Paul to make his hideout private.

Edit: huh. the site directs to this thread.

it's offline.

Yeah, I saw. The important thing, though, is SpreadtheOnAVirus linked to this thread means I'm getting more upvotes.

[deleted]

He pulled the site because of this. He didn't get a C&D or a letter but it was precautionary for now. i'll talk to him and see if it'll ever come back online.

Why? What money could they possibly be losing from old bits?

Short sighted Liberty. The least they can do is to create and maintain their own fucking youtube channel and put stuff up in a timely manner.

Looks like we're going to be going back to torrents.

PSSSST

PSSSST

There is nothing in the EULA for the SirusXM trial subscriptions that says they're limited to one per person. It only states one trial per EMAIL ADDRESS.

Thus then...get a free trial once a week with a disposable email service and stream away...for free...legally...

You are correct, however you are forgetting that since XM/S released the new player it times out every 60 minutes or so.

Use an alternate player. There's a bunch of 'em and they all work better than the native online webpage player.

nope. Jan 1 2013 S/XM put the kaibosh on all WMV legacy thirparty encoded streams. This is reason GTAJ quit, xmtuner, siriusstreamer all this shit is dead.

How does someone spell kaibosh?

I pay for XM in my car and online streaming. However, I do like grabbing the shows in mp3 format because the app SUCKS...and it's way easier to listen to shows that way

is this happening to the Howard people? is it S/XM accross the board?

I checked r/howard, but they don't seem to even care enough to hold their own subreddit.

[deleted]

Second that.

it looks like fedexed spammed it

But couldn't you upload the old shows (or all the content on spreadtheonavirus) on piratebay, kat.ph, or something? As far as I know, they can't take THOSE down, right? Plus, I would imagine it takes way less time to make torrents than to upload the shows on a website...

[deleted]

I knew they wouldn't be.

Heard Opie talkin' about Reddit. I wonder if the Opster has a reddit username??

You stream R&F too?

seriously take down that link

I suppose I will then have access to all archives of the shows through the shitty app or the crappy website...All to try to force the small amount of people who don't to pay for it.

Guess they don't realize subscribers do this too as their app isn't good for more than a week of content if it works

I don't think this will affect the blogs that post the full shows. Those are far less well-known.

[deleted]

Can't anybody lay low with this shit?! Re-broadcasting is against the Terms and Conditions and doing it on YouTube is just dumb. You've gotta KNOW Sirius is watching YouTube for Copywright Infringement.

[deleted]

Give it a month or two. Corporations seem to stop giving a shit after that.

That's what we said in the classic animation fanbase when they started taking down out videos from youtube and dailymotion 5 years ago and they never made it available ever again.

I like OnA but ill never pay Sirius to hear them. If they remove the clips and make it harder to find pirated shows then so be it. I'll move onto something else. =|

Same here.

I would have payed maybe back in '05 to '07, but now it just doesn't feel worth it. Don't get me wrong, I love the show and listen to it daily, but it just ain't what it used to be.

Agreed. this show was at it's peak with Patrice O'Neal in studio

If that's your mentality then how are you a fan?

Because I like the show? I don't like it as much as I used to, but I still like it.

spreadtheoavirus.com is redirecting here, was timmycakes the owner? I hadn't downloaded all the black philip shows yet :(

[deleted]

Nice amount of seeders, too. That's the one weakness with torrents but as long as people seed it'll be good.

Pretty much the same old story but I wouldn't have ever heard o&a if not for the Louis C.K shows on Steve's channel.

Thank you for all the uploads man, think imma stop listening now.

You're welcome, man, I'm glad you enjoyed my channel so much. Feel free to send cash. How about tens and twentys?

[deleted]

They talked about this issue on the 1/25 show. Pretty sure someone must have saw this...Erock is a dope.

Who is the lawyer? Put up some info.

Meh, torrents will always be there.

If only Ted had an O&A Emporium . . .

;-)

It amazes me how people spread these things here of all places. It's like you want everything to be shut down.

I have 3 ways. Ted's is only 1 of them. If you know where too look you'll find em.

Bad news brother, looks like OA and RF are gone now too. Just alexxcast and daveymac.

Here's an idea for people who live out of the country or can't afford a SiriusXM subscription. My work pays for my subscription so I don't really care if this scam blows up or not.

SiriusXM offers a free 7 day trial to anyone. You don't have to enter a credit card or anything. Just a fake name, fake email, and a few other non dis script questions. After the 7 day trail is up sign up again with another fake email, and repeat. You have to make a new email every week, and sign up again but at least you can listen to the show and you also get the on demand service for free.

Here is the link: http://www.siriusxm.com/freetrial

Are individuals being sued for downloading as well or are they just targeting uploaders?

[deleted]

I mean, yeah, they're suing everyone who ever downloaded a show. Expect a subpoena.

i literally just started watching through some OnA videos a week ago and now theyre all gone. beyond sad about this

[deleted]

Why do you think they would give you the show for free? Sure they did video for a while but their bosses look at those people as lost customers who would pay if it wasnt so easy.

[deleted]

maybe if you didn't link it they could slip under the radar, you fucking waterhead

[deleted]

Might be a little harder if the links weren't thrown around, you naughty little boy.

[deleted]

Can I even get "Jesus is a Nerd" and "Ice Road Truckers"?

Jesus is a fockin' nerd. Hot fires!

Recording the show yourself is pretty easy, as long as they don't go also after those obscure streams that are available on shoutcast and stuff.

what do you mean?

I'm saying that you can record the show, everyday, automatically, or listen live, if you know where to search for streams. That's what I do everyday, I set up my PC to record the show, and when I come home, there's a nice mp3 file waiting for me.

I've posted the tutorial here: http://www.reddit.com/r/opieandanthony/comments/14ws8v/tutorial_automatically_record_the_show_everyday/

It's a one and done thing and it looks more complicated than it is.

I got that part, I just meant about the obscure stream available on shoutcast?

Well, there are streams on shoutcast available, what more can I say? :D

ah okayyyy, I thought you were hinting that they are no good. I'm slow.

yous the queea pal. i hope i get 1000 downvotes. who gives a fuck
