Judge orders Joe Piscopo to pay $10K in child support
Entertainer Joe Piscopo was ordered to pay $10,000 in child support to his ex-wife Kimberly Driscoll by the end of next month at a hearing this afternoon.
The hearing in Superior Court in Hunterdon County came after Piscopo, 61, fell behind on child support in the amount of about $30,000.
As terms of the divorce, Piscopo must pay $10,000 per month in spousal support and $5,000 per month in child support.
Piscopo did not appear in court, but his attorney Jason LeBeouf appeared on his behalf and argued that Piscopo has had inconsistent income as of late.
"Mr. Piscopo is an actor and an entertainer, and unfortunately entertaining doesn't come with a consistent paycheck," he said.
Piscopo has made a number of substantial payments recently, bringing down the amount he owed Driscoll from close to $50,000 last month.
Driscoll appeared with Lisa Browning an attorney with Gianos and Phillips LLC, who said the back payments are affecting her client's ability to pay rent and electric bills in their Hunterdon County home.
"Mr. Piscopo does work. We have proof on his own website of many gigs...I don't know that I believe he's not capable of making the payments. It could be going to his mortgage, his pool. He's living a lifestyle much similar to his marital lifestyle. My client is not," Browing said.
Piscopo must pay the $10,000 by Dec. 28 or the hearing officer said a warrant would be issued for his arrest. He also must continue to pay $50 extra a week toward arrears.
Driscoll, who filed for divorce in 2006, declined to comment outside of the courtroom.
The couple, who have three children, married in 1997, nearly a decade after Piscopo divorced his first wife, television producer Nancy Jones.
Piscopo is best known for his Frank Sinatra and David Letterman impersonations on "Saturday Night Live." He left the show in 1984.
