Opie on solar energy

6  2012-11-03 by [deleted]

I try so hard not to be an Opie hater, but whenever he tries to add to a scientific discussion (or political... or really anything that might have required a text book at some point), I find myself yelling at the radio. He clearly didn't understand the basic concept - that solar is inefficient energy. His childish, overly simplistic questions just drive me insane. If you missed it, his argument seemed to be that cell phones are small and energy-efficient, so why can't they do the same with solar panels. It made no sense and he kept pushing it as if he was making a valid point.

So you listen to O&A for their scientifically accurate commentary on pressing issues?

Man, and here I was just listening to it for the lulz.

The shit people allow to bother them while they are listening to an ENTERTAINMENT show blows my mind.

Opie says dumb shit for you to laugh at, dont you fucking get it?

I agree with everything you said but the last part. Opie says dumb shit because he doesn't know any better. I used to think he pretended to be an idiot for the show, turns out he's an actual idiot.

Opie is dumb and Ant is a high school dropout. To expect anything they say to come from a point of intelligence is laughable. That being said, listening to morons trying to sound intelligent can be incredibly grating. So I can see both sides of this.

Anthony is really smart at times.

I love when someone brings up a topic, and ant give scientific explanation and there's that few moment pause

~Fuck Aristotle, and fuck Socrates, here comes professor Anthony!~

Sad they stopped using that

Not really, typically he just regurgitates what he hears on tv. It just comes down to wether or not you're informed on the topic at hand to realize if he really has a clue.

HE JUST REGURGITATES WHAT HE HEARS ON FAUX NEWS MAAAAAAAAHN!

And your opinions are completely unique and your own, right?

I didn't saying anything about politics but hey, great job parroting the show.

listen i know you think you have a point here but to share information you've acquired isn't "regurgitating" it's simply learning and teaching

so kindly stop it you silly goose

High school dropout or not, he definitely keeps up with popular science and current events.

If the show is only about entertainment, why are they discussing solar energy? If you don't realize the show has evolved into more than just entertainment, you're a dummy.

They have to fill 4 hours everyday. They would talk about mashed potatoes if they could make it entertaining.

THAT DON'T MAKE NO SENSE

He really is the dumbest guy on the show, which is ironic considering he's the only one that went to college. Ant and Jimmy will be wrong about stuff, but Opie seems to lack a lot of fundamental concepts of the world outside of radio.

You nailed it. Opie (and I am not a GH hater, FWIW) probably knows more about radio than Guglielmo Marconi himself did, but he's kind of a dumb bro about most other things. Which absolutely makes for entertaining exchanges on the show at times, and other times simply "ohhhh opester, you silly retard" moments. The solar comment/question was one of the latter, but hey, better than 4 hours of silence. That said, and I admittedly zoned out a tad during that segment, I thought he was wondering why little solar panels can't be put on phones to charge them. Sure, may not be related to your comment specifically, but couldn't be fucked to write two comments here.

MAAAAAAAAAN.

I like when he suggested that "they" get all those smart Apple employees working on solar since if it's so ineffecient.

His childish, overly simplistic questions

When you broadcast to a mass audience, you assume that many are low-information listeners and ask questions on their behalf. I'm not saying that's all Opie was doing, but that's definitely part of hosting.

I groaned audibly when solar energy came up. Anthony's screed against solar energy and the obligatory Solyndra mention was tedious, predictable and intellectually dishonest.

I get what you're saying, but I definitely don't think it's the case.

It really is amazing how dumb the three of them are, yet they just plow ahead stating "facts". They're still funny as hell, but damn.....

Well, they do have mics in front of them...

And Jimmy didn't know you could put a little man on the map and get a street view... Duh! Yet it was probably the single funniest moment on O&A this year.

I happen to know a ton about PV systems from my wife's work and installing a system on our RV. To expect a "shock jock" to understand the subtle energy gains to be made from PWM charging is just a little silly...

I hope that PV system catches on fire and your RV is also your firey coffin.

It would not kill them to just go on wikipedia every now and then. Especially when they walk about ancient aliens (not the show).

It took him a few years, but at least now he knows he's a moron. Occasionally Anthony will condescend him, though its very rare.

so opies not funny, hes not intelligent... he adds to the show how? oh ya he cuts off the talent from going too long on a certain subject, riiight. thanks opie lovers, perhaps if we were all opie haters we wouldn't have to hear him on the show anymore.

ken fucking reddit up with some truth.

To be fair, the "engineer" that called in clearly had political motives. I knew something was up when after telling Opie about solar power's current shortcomings, he said something about Obama. If his science was good science, there's no reason to get political. I think Ant was already on a political rant as it tapped into his kneejerk defense of big business, and then they put through a caller claiming to be a knowledgable engineer on this topic (didn't really hear any proof) who finished up his dressing down of Opie's ignorance with a bit on how Obama is holding all these businesses back. The whole thing STINKS.

actually there is research in miniaturizing solar cells to make the panels as a whole more efficient.

It also makes them cheaper to produce on a $/watt scale.

But, you know, keep bitching about how stupid a guy on the radio is and how much smarter you are sitting behind a keyboard.

And Ant thinks if you're black you're driven to home invade, who cares what they believe?

No, he really doesn't. He just acknowledges that you're more likely to get your home invaded by a black guy than a white guy, despite what Brinks would like you to believe.

You mean to tell me those commercials are a lie? And random white people don't go robbing rich white peoples homes in the suburbs in broad daylight?!

I love the South Park episode on this.

Never seen it. Link?
