Jocktober Has Wrapped Up. Thoughts/Opinions?

Personally, I thought it started out really strong, the best so far with the media exposure they got. Then it just dropped off with static segments.
But my biggest disappointment was they didn't do their Annual self-trashing of one of their own tapes, which they had mentioned doing earlier in the month. I get that the Storm could have messed up staff availability, but today's show on E-Rock was boring filler that could have been better spent time.

Agreeded that it should have ended properly instead of leaving us hanging. I also felt the shows they mocked mostly had the same format (discussing boring news stories ala John and Jeff. I liked the hackier morning zoo poundings better)

Still, we got "I GOT A TREE ON MY HOUSE" out of it, hard to complain about that.

Yeah I agree. The main problem was that the shows just weren't hacky enough and instead just a bunch of boring and unfunny guys trying to do radio. It felt a lot of the time that the boys had to force jocktober and make something out as "eww...ugh...kill yourself...so hacky" when in reality it was just some lame joke made by a small time jock. Who gives a shit.

I don't get why Opie gets so mad at Jocktober If a station is doing a $5,000 fugitive bit, WHO CARES?!? They're not hurting anyone, and they're certainly not taking any money or jobs away from the boys. I can see the problem if it was their PD telling them to do that crap, but otherwise it's a small-time jock. Just laugh at the absurdity of it and move along

He's expressing his outrage towards the industry as a whole. Jocktober is around to point out the homogenization and mediocrity of morning radio.

Keep in mind that it's over the top "Opester" rage, but behind the shtick is a sad little ginger boy saying "stop killing the medium I love".

It's his false outrage. Most of those DJ's probably don't want to be doing that stuff but they want to keep their job.

Same as every year. At the beginning it's every day and always really funny, then they just get pissed and the segments become shorter or it's skipped entirely. Business as usual.

Their stuff on Katrina would have been oh-so-timely.

it started out a lot more fun the first couple years, somewhere along the line, the Ope-ster started getting angrier at Jocktober and really taking it personally that radio sucks. The other thing is a lot of the shows aren't that interesting; if they just stuck to Scott and Todd or John and Jeff everyday it would be a better bit.

the Scott and Todd TREE ON MAH HOUSE is a classic, but the unofficial Bubba the Love Sponge Jocktober segment was probably the strongest hour overall

Kinda bummed that they skipped so many days. And split one of them across two days when they never got back to it.

Granted, the point of the exercise is how many of these shows are exactly the same (yet for some reason still exist, because you could easily fire them all and syndicate one of them cheaply, I imagine), but the well is still endless.

Here's hoping that the self-trashing comes tomorrow. They can't not do that.

They just weren't in to it this year. Maybe they should take a break from that bit for a while. Pull it back out in 2014.

They should just do it for a week. When they do it for a whole month it's like beating a dead horse.

Kinda bummed there was no John and Jeff

EDIT: According to wiki, they've been off the air since April 2012.

We're two guys who aren't on the radio anymore.

I wish O & A would spoof those ads for promos but in their own fashion.

"We're two guys who think terrestrial radio sucks."

"We're two guys who think E-Rock is fat."

and so on.

They did one Jocktober, sorry no link. I remember "were two guys who fuck little boys." Norton went off on the fact Jeff has been to Thailand ten times. I think it was when Jim's second book came out.

Well said. They should prepare for this month in advance. Don't they have an army of interns that don't do anything? I remember one show where Sam was like "I need a day to get this together"

I think it's a reflection of the state of terrestrial radio... There's just no survivors. Nobody is doing anything at all, let alone something worth making fun of. I too felt it was just sad making fun of people just doing their thing. It's easy when they're trying hard and trying to make it in the business, but a local radio duo just working... That's rough.

That being said, the "bullying" and "hacking" reports were hilarious, and "there's a tree on my house" will be fun for years.

Yah this year was odd, but thats ok there is always next year

They got the single strongest bit out of it, but the consistency was pathetic and obnoxious. Between forgetting about Jocktober on some days, and starting it and then segueing off to something else, it was annoying for one of the most hyped bits of the entire year.

Sloppy and shameful, other than Tree on my House day. It should not return.

I would love to see them go after some podcasts next year. There are some horrifically bad ones out there.

They should have a listener submission week, Sam & the interns can't listen to every show. I'm sure there are some nice duds around the country!

What media exposure are you on about? I haven't listened in weeks so I'm not up to snuff on all the goings on like you obsessed nerds.
