I took a video editing class years ago where one project involved removing the soundtrack from a Seinfeld episode. It was actually much funnier without the laugh track.
It's not really the point, but Seinfeld didn't have a bogus laugh track. Even for the scenes not shot in studio, they'd show them to the studio audience, record the laughter, and then dub it in afterwards.
