The most popular pop culture topic on Twitter yesterday but I must've heard it on Jim and Sam, a show featuring two guys I genuinely hate, on that Sirius radio I don't have.
The whole thing looks so cheap—not just the production of it, but also the concept. It’s as if Keith arranged for his “designer” friend (another grifting 40 something retired cop, I’m guessing) to stop by the Compound for a few hours, chat with a drunken Ant by the pool, and this is what they come up with. Ant probably looked at the proof a few days later in his brief sober window between waking up and starting his day, and cringed, but was too conflict averse to call the guy about it.
If he wanted to play up the politics angle, or at least try to capitalize on it to sell more than 240 copies, he could have done something more traditional, but still a bit edgy, with some red, white and blue motif, an Ann Coulter quote, and boom, at least he would have had a shot at the boomer outrage market (some of the last people buying books).
Not to belabor this, but I think Ant’s book didn’t get ripped on enough here (or wherever) because it was too sad. After all his bluster about it, literally going back a decade+ (“one day we’re going to write a book, maaaan”); to see this cover then to hear tell of how bland and rehashed it’s content is (with glaring errors in the first sentence alone, and typos throughout)—it was a turning point for many former fans. It’s patheticness was such that it effectively cooled the Ant hate, and focused the collective ire on other targets like Joe and Fat.
