Opie & Anthony Show Breakdown for 5/1/19

234  2019-05-01 by BoardroomBimmy

IT'S WHIP 'EM OUT WEDNESDAY, PESTS! Join the b-b-b-boys by posting stories and pictures of all the hawt girls showing you their beefers (funny word lol)!

Show opens with the 35 minute long humble-brag about the show but it's done ironically. It's the bit, you fawwwkin dopes!! RATM's "Street Fighting Man" follows.

Opie begins with a rundown of today's show. Jeremy Irons is today's guest and will discuss his role as Wind-Man in Disney's Marvel's Avengers: Endgame.

They talk about how the Avengers movie is "blowin' up" all over "the Twitter." They list a bunch of stats and get nearly every single fact wrong. They are clueless. Sam comes in as fourth mic and mentions that John Cena was once in a movie. Opie gets annoyed that someone from that movie appeared on their show on WNEW 75 years ago and got "too big for the fawkin show!"

Anthony is hungover and miserable. Jimmy is late.

Anthony does his daily "Guess who I blocked on Twitter today?" bit; a staple of modern O&A. It's riveting.

Jimmy shows up a half hour late. Can you guess what sorts of shenanigans he got into with his Uber driver?! Well fear not because he goes into great detail about the endeavor! Plenty of motherfucking up and down.

Jim needs to tinkle (lol!) and Opie needs MELK SOS EMERGENCY SEND HELP HIS BLOODSUGAR IS DROPPING!!!! Anthony needs to vomit.

They return and jump into the news. Uninformed Trump talk. They somehow twist it into something about free speech.

Anthony moves the conversation onto something he read on Real American Patriotic News Patriotism or Dems R' Jerks or some other far right propaganda site because a black guy did something bad and Anthony is scared shitless that it will happen to him. Guns, blacks, taxes, Obama, yadda yadda. Anthony is at a 10 out of 10 on the ranting scale; Opie plays with his phone. Sam says nothing because it doesn't involve a rassler or girl music.

Start talking about Ozzy's health scare. Jim is in tears. He says that when Ozzy eventually dies, his funeral will be bigger than Princess Diana's. He wonders if Ozzy ever saw the movie Crash.

Anthony and Jim start laughing about King of Comedy. Jim says that you couldn't get away with that sort of stuff today in this PC culture maaaaaaan!! Opie never saw it.

Jeremy Irons in studio to promote the biggest movie ever. He seems confused and somewhat annoyed when they have him stroll in and have a seat wherever. It's the hang, brotherman! Instead of discussing Avengers, they ask him about a movie from 1974 that nobody remembers. Sam asks if he ever met Vince McMahon. "Interview" over. Opie makes Jeremy Irons promise that they will stay besties forever and ever. Jeremy Irons is perplexed as to why these guys have a worldwide show on satellite radio.

YouTube on the Radio! They're watching Starsky & Hutch reruns. REMEMBER THAT SHOW???!! Opie accidentally says something funny. He course corrects that by repeating the line 50 times to diminishing results. Everyone is annoyed.

They bring 50 year old wigger and ladykiller Troyquan on for some reason. Everyone is infatuated with him. Sam mentions that he and Troy hung out over the weekend to bro down/fuck each other raw dog. Troy is just all like "yeah dude whatevs" and rides a skateboard out of the studio to go film his Project: Badass videos.

9:59 SHOW IS OVER SCATTER!!!!! "Eat my dust, bozos!" as everyone except for gay Sam flies out of the studio as fast as is humanly possible.

Sam starts his shitshow to the enjoyment of absolutely no one. He has a WWE wrestler coming in whose gimmick is that he farts and dances. Sam asks his pre-approved questions.

Wow, what a day, huh? As a side, let me tell you that I had my WOW sticker loud and proud on my big rig's bumper and had girls showing me their TITS all fucking morning! I took pictures but everyone was laughing and puking so hard the tape fell out and broke into a million pieces.

The sad part is we all would still be listening.

Jesus, is that what the show became? Holy shit I tapped out in 10/11. That would be terrible to listen to. I don’t care what anyone says, when they were on in the afternoons, they were at their best. Anthony was drunk, not hungover and everybody loved lil Jimmy.

its a wild show.

Above all else...REAL!

WNEW was objectively the show’s peak.

They took more chances, gave less of a fuck and always seemed to be having genuine fun. XM tried to recapture the magic, but it was never the same because they were doing morning radio. I remember coming in for “ money for honey” and thinking this is what it was like everyday at WNEW. XM believed in the brand and supported them. Sirius couldn’t wait to destroy them, and boy did they suck the life out of that show. It took six years but when the opportunity came to break it up they chomped at the bit.

I don't know why people say that ever. They sounded like a gucking hack zoo. Compared to Howard and R&F they rucking sucked until 2013

I remember just before getting xm, I’d listen to Howard on FM on my way to my summer job, it was some of the worst radio I’ve ever heard. All he was doing was complaining about KROCK and how he couldn’t wait to get to Sirius. Ron and Fez was always great, the drinking shows on NEW were always amazing, especially when they would get Al Dukes drunk.

Howard did that on purpose. His show became one huge commercial to subscribe to Sirius. CBS actually tried to sue him after the move for that fact.

Eh, I loved it when he tried to corner Rosie at her show to call her out for shitting on Tom Selleck being an NRA member while she was a spokesperson for KMart which sold guns.

Yeah. Howard was great 90-2002, then great again from 06-09, maybe.

I know a few people used to be huge stern fans and they all say his show is absolute dog shit and it’s been that way for a while.

I just consider Ron and Stern both retired, thus freeing me from the burden or desire to listen to their current awful shows. We'll always have the memories, won't we?

I think Stern has just gotten older and he's decided that he wants to be known more for interviews than for wackiness now.

It's crazy how I was all the way on O&A's side back during their rivalry, but I look back at it now as Stern being the decent guy and O&A being the hacks.

Don’t let o and a’s self destructive nature take anything away from the fact Howard’s not a decent person in the least bit. Case in point, a billionaire who didn’t help his engineer out when his wife was diagnosed and dying of cancer. When you reach that level of success you help people out especially those around you.

Hoo-Hoo! I love kittens, Robin.

Howard was under a lot of microscopes by then so I don't blame you, I think I remember him saying he wasn't allowed to say "go to the bathroom" anymore so I think his last year was just a big commercial for SIRIUS.

I loved the Earl years but Molly and Pepper were really good too.

I just could never get into terrestrial radio besides Howard.

Maybe because I only started listening to O and A because of the 2013 Jocktober but I have a hard time listening to the pre walk over shows.

The message board era for Ron and Fez I don't mind but definitely without Earl it would have been shit

As far as the satellite years of Ron and Fez, the Earl-Dave years were the best. ESD doesn’t get enough respect for stepping up when Fez had his meltdown. Fuck, I miss soundboard Fez.

I like ESD with a heel like Earl but his drunk character, if it was a character even, really got old for me. Like when everyone would call in to say what a mess he was over the weekend, having to be carried out and his stuff taken care of that he leaves at bars, he would always have a fucking irritating addict excuse. Almost as bad as listening to Staples worm his way out of something but Staples I loved to hate

Going thru 2007 r&f right now for the first time and ESD is ruining pretty much every show for me. It's not a pleasant revelation. I started listening a year or so before Fez's dad died and listened faithfully till the end.

Yea I really can't stand him without Earl. I don't know if it's a character but the whole "my brain.. doesnt take in.. isnt as good as the average.. can't take in information.. me talk like dumb baby" is infuriating. I only stop myself from cutting my wrists because his wife rightfully cucked him

Unfortunately for her and the kids, they both look exactly like Dave. I really did love his sports show though

He was the bad guy, which was great. All the callers used scream at him, but it was just a character. Then came the midnight rider story line and made Dave the good guy. Then he had his Philly Dave phase for a bit, then back to struggling Dave.

this is gonna blow your mind, Fish Boy, but the midnight rider storyline kinda fucking sucked and was irritating as piss

That’s your opinion sir and you’re entitled to it.

Serious question since I've got you here: On Special Delivery, there were a couple times where Dave flipped out on you and sent you home. Now, call me country bumpkin, but was that genuine or just radio goofiness?

The time i told him to fuck off, that was genuine, I think there was a few times I was “suspended” I was actually visiting a girlfriend at the time. Dave and I have actually remained friends through all that stuff, which is ironic since that whole radio wars thing.

Very interesting. Congrats on not killing Sam during SD and winding up in prison.

Thanks. I used to think we were friends, but I don’t think Sam is capable of having real friends. It took me a real long time to realize how much of a piece of shit he was and how he used me until I wouldn’t let him use me anymore. He’s an evil person, not a bad person, but real fucking evil, like a villain. I’m glad I got to contribute to Porsalin’s doc, I know that one day karma is going to come back to kick him in the ass.

Other than Sam, who was your least favorite staffer to be around?

Actually I liked them all, there was a lot of ball busting, but nothing malicious. Danny would give me tasks, Travis would let me screen calls. Erik and Duffy showed me how to use audition. Derek and Than would have me run errands. Derek even let me cut a promo with him.

ESD gave us amazing bits like Earl's dead grandma dirty talking though. Also the Midnight Rider is some of the best radio of all time

Also the Midnight Rider is some of the best radio of all time

Midnight Rider saga = weeks of obnoxious shouting

Did you actually listen to any of what he said? He was cutting promos every time he came in and it all culminated with the big ass bash.

yes motherfucker, i don't want to listen to that shit on the radio

Staples: “ERGHHHH AHHHHH”

I'm listening to 2009 RnF right now. You couldn't be more correct about ESD and Fez at this time.

It’s sad, because Fez was never the same after his heart attacks. We’d get glimmers of hope, remember New Years baby Hitler and then he did that rick flair at a live event and everyone started chanting “Fezzies back! Fezzies back”. Then a week later he’d either keep quiet during the show or bring up something to do with homosexuality. It was fucking depressing seeing such a beloved person just completely fall apart. Everyone loves Fez, it’s such a shame what happened.

I remember listening live back then and everyone questioning whether or not Fez was doing a bit or if he was legit going crazy. I absolutely knew it wasn’t a bit and Ron had a real life “Howard Beale” on his hands. It’s still fascinating listening to it all over again 10 years later.

Ron is arguably one of the funniest people no one outside of this community knows. He’s the type of guy who should be on Rogan every 4-6 months.

So give me your take on this, because this place is one of the only places we can have this kind of discussion. I’m torn about how I feel about Ron and Jim. I’m grateful for all the times they’ve entertained me and made me laugh, but I’m really disappointed in the decisions they’ve made ( I get why each of them did it, I don’t fault them, they did what was best for them). As a fan, it’s incredibly sad to see Ron engage in nepotism and Jim do a show with the least likable and talented person in the AFRO universe.

Well Ron always said he always wanted to stay ‘under the radar’ of management and was wary of gaining greater notoriety outside of the radio world. I think he was grateful and quite comfortable with the career and life doing radio afforded him and didn’t want to risk fucking that up. Who knows what his motivations were in not wanting greater success, as everyone knows, Ron was the most deserving of anyone in that circle of moving on to greater things in the biz. It seemed like he could’ve easily moved in to the role of a Charlie Rose or Larry King being a nationally known interviewer/host on TV if he had just made the moves to do so. I think Ron found an angle that worked for him and just played it out. It always saddens me to think how unknown he is to the majority of the public. As far as I’m concerned I think when the Ron and Fez show finally ended Ron’s attitude is that he is basically retired. I think he just kept going because he loves radio and they still want to pay him. Also why not set up your kid with a nice gig and steady income? I also think he has a loyalty to Chris Stanley and the staff that motivates him to stay on the air. I don’t begrudge him for it. He gave me over a decade of the most honest and bizarre radio I ever heard.

As for Jim, his case is entirely different. I think Jim just sees he is on the back end of a moderately successful career in permanent decline and is holding on by his fingernails to a nice steady income. His stand up is outdated, his acting career is going nowhere and as a radio personality, he never had the talent to be a host. He was a great third mic. It was the one thing he excelled at, but being the main on air personality just doesn’t suit him. He will play it safe and hold on to the Sirius/XM gig until they decide to ax the show which frankly could happen any day. I hope he eventually finds a renewed comedic voice in his older years that translates well like Carlin and he has a resurgence but I don’t see it. As long as he keeps playing it safe and stays in his comfort zone he’s going nowhere.

The show was better for afternoons. Thats all it comes down to. Day drinking, and guests who didn't have to wake up at 4AM and be "on" (hard to do for comedians)

AM radio is about new stories. O&A were never good at that.

I am the dumb asshole who loved the entire run. But this first few years at XM were just so good.

R&F were god-level toward the end. Their descent into madness with Fezzie and Ron's supernatural ability to make that interesting and compelling was something we'll never, ever get to experience again in radio.

Yea that's when I got into them, the umbrella story was shit I've never even heard on stern level. I only started binge listening when I heard the earl years and early xm

O&A was never good.

In hindsight it was always mediocre. It’s telling that the show’s biggest fans were Bobo and Big A types.

happy cake day brotherman

Oh I’m an ex church member, I don’t celebrate cake stomp day.

Who are Opie & Anthony? I only know Joe & Patrick.

They were like a proto-Joe & Patrick. It was rough around the edges but you can see where its where J&P got their thin skin and lack of wit.

Sounds awful.

Bravo 👏👏👏

It's sickening how realistic this is.

it's not real??

It's still real to me, damn it

Did Jim get a picture with Jeremy Irons?

He did but the sssscumbag Sam was in it too so it doesn’t count. Jim passive aggressively complains about it for the next half hour.

He got it but it was a tough one. They had to hustle Jeremy Irons out of the studio so jimmy could interview boxing legend Joe Papelli. That guys a really hard get

The sad thing is this show still beats 95% of today’s podcasts.

Forced NPR voice

I loathe what I read, but would still listen.

I want to live in this alternative universe. Where's the evil chick from Sliders? I want to go now.

I don't want it only because that would mean ang is still getting millions and grooming child instead of creating mutil million operation

Accurate

I'd be happy to have this to listen to.

It bothers me that I agree.

Everyone is annoyed.

This made me shit my pants.

Brotherman you left off the 2 minutes of silence while they watched the youtube video and said things like "look at that!"

They came back from commercial with the Travdog playing "Fell on Black Days" by Soundgarden

Opie: Oh man good choice Travis. I fawking go deep with Pearl Jam. Love that song. I listened to their channel all weekend. Didnt even sleep cawse it was so fawking good

Travdog: Actually its Soundgarden

Opster (after 10 seconds of silence): I KNEW THAT! I REALLY KNEW IT WAS SOUNDGARDEN. I just had a brainfart. Really I go way deep with both Soundgarden and Pearl Jam that was why I got confused but I really did know it was Soundgarden. Lets go to the phones. Snowy from Michigan. SNOWAAAAAAAAYY

Brotherman you left off the 2 minutes of silence while they watched the youtube video and said things like "look at that!"

My blood is boiling.

Someone asked me what I was listening to the other day when I was blaring my music over my Xbox live headset. It was 3 6 Mafia, but I was too busy paying attention to the game and accidentally said UGK. I can empathize with your comment, I still feel embarrassed.

Were you sippin on some syzzrup?

This is a peak into another timeline. How is this possibile?

It's peek you fucking cunt.

Opie and Anthony is the worst show ever.

Ever given Jason Ellis a listen?

Sam bursts into the conversation and through lots of giggling tells how all weekend he was sending Endgame spoilers he saw on twitter to Erock because he hadn't seen it yet. Erock comes in and pretends to be angry for 20 seconds. The boys berate him for admitting he got emotional during the movie.

You forgot when they all ate their breakfasts into the mic. That was my favorite part.

Not only ate breakfast on air but spent a good 20 minutes prior to that discussing what they were going to eat and how much of it. It's good to show contempt for your audience.

I really respected that they allowed people to chew gum into the mics.

Hoo hoo had his faults but if a staffer of his did that he would scream at them for 10 mins, throw them out and probably ban them from the studio for a week

Anthony and Opie 2020 Bring back the funny !

Did Jim ask Jeremy if he likes a meaty pussy?

I love you man.

I love you both

This is so accurate. But you forgot where opie says "were runnin' outta show here". I always hated when he'd say that.

VideO&A makes those clips really funny, but I dont know how people could just listen to it. You need to see it to have any idea whats happening

Somethings and some beings are better just heard

The fawkin show needed a visual element!

I can't believe I used to look forward to this shit.

I have to piss desperately.

Start talking about Ozzy's health scare. Jim is in tears. He says that when Ozzy eventually dies, his funeral will be bigger than Princess Diana's.

I heard this vividly in my mind like a glimpse into an alternate time line.

you forgot the part where anthony pronounces a word with a weird emphasis, does his gay little fake chuckle, then says it again the same way.

I always love these. Thank you for your service.

I usually put on old O&A clips at work and stuff and it's really hard for me to explain to people what I'm listening to because of how pathetic the show became.

Brother Joe calls in to promote his "corporate gig" at Señor Taco in Poughkeepsie. He rambles on like a fucking moron for 5 minutes. Opie just lets him go because it highlights what a fucking pussy faggot Anthony is because he never tells Joe to just shut the fuck up already.

Did Jim mention he's a professional comedian and this show is just something he does on the side despite Opie "holding him back"?

Its almost as if Anthony never got his as kicked in Times Square by that nigger hooker.

What an artisan.

They didn’t complain about management at all today? I can’t believe it.

This is poetry...

I honestly cannot wait till the next show.

I'm so glad I switched to R&F the last year or two before the show ended.

And now I can just sit and listen my thoughts

I took pictures but everyone was laughing and puking so hard the tape fell out and broke into a million pieces.

Linger longer

Ramoone, bring me a radio show that used to entertain me...

Jimmy didn't let out any gassers?!

You forgot statistics from Anthony, which he can correlate to any news story.

Mods please remove this post. It has nothing to do with Patrick.

You forgot Anthony reminiscing about his weekend of playing video games, as if he thinks a grown man screaming about dying repeatedly while battling japanese children online is something anyone other than himself cares about...

Also forgot Jimmy reciting the "plunger in the latrine" joke for the 2,700th time.

The show ended at least one year after it really should have.

Could you do this everyday?

Tune in on Friday when we have Bobo fuck a fleshlight full of tabasco sauce in front of the Chrisley Knows Best guy.

>He wonders if Ozzy ever saw the movie Crash.

This made my skin crawl.

What no cameos from Roland or Club Soda Kenny?

He wonders if Ozzy ever saw the movie Crash.

Don't we all Jim, don't we all.
