Pete Davidson is in a Great Movie.

I am so damn tired of puritanical social justice warriors, and it looks like they're writing hit pieces on "The Dirt", a Netflix movie about Motley Crue.
I watched it last night, not expecting a whole lot, and it was actually GREAT. Engaging story, surprisingly decent acting by Pete Davidson and Machine Gun Kelly, and lots and lots of tits and ass. This isn't high art but it was fun and reminded me that Motley Crue actually had some catchy tracks back in the 80s.
All of the hit pieces on the movie seem to focus on two things:
1) in the #metoo era, we shouldn't be watching movies that glorify sex and drugs
2) the dude that wrote the book is also a famous pick up artist, and therefore he should be cast out of society because #metoo
It's just tedious horseshit. I read Neil's book about Marilyn Manson, and he's an engaging writer.
Also, Strauss makes Jim Norton look like a handsome man. Kudos to Strauss for figuring out a way to Get The Girl without paying for it.

I was shocked that I enjoyed it. I've never watched a single thing that Machine Gun Kelly or Davidson have ever done. I hate SNL and I lost interest in rap twenty years ago.
My first reaction when I saw Davidson was "fuck this guy" but I actually enjoyed the movie.

Ya live the cigarette and booze life, you get that.
Ya live the Celine Dion life, you can still tour and hit the high notes in 2019.

The fact that the Nikki Sixx actor had a normal guy's voice kind of pulled me out of it. The real Nikki Sixx has that Joe Rogan thing going on where he has the voice and cadence of a woman in her fifties.

Lol yea but almost immediately after they kinda lampshaded it by jumping to Tommy's story and changing tone. And acknowledging how try hard Nikki was

It was fun. It wasn’t “great.”

That movie was terrible

It was made for TV tier shit. I had been excited about that movie since I read the book in high school and the word was David Fincher would direct it.

I read the book a long time ago. They conveniently left out a lot. Right off the top of my head, all of Tommy Lee's assault and DV arrests (they made him the fun goofball), a kid drowning in his pool, Pamela Anderson entirely. They made Vince's car accident look like he was just distracted, not fall down drunk. All the backstage questionable antics. Nothing on the band getting into multiple fist fights in public. Mick being drunk for two decades (they made him sage). London drug dealers dumping Nikki Sixx's unresponsive body into a dumpster after they couldn't revive him with a baseball bat. etc.
With that being said, the book is awesome, the movie was an OK made for TV special.

I was in high school when Motley Crue was getting big, so I knew a handful of people that were in the Hollywood "scene."
I thought it was kinda interesting how they portrayed every woman in the movie as just a complete whore. In my experience, 90% of the girls that were in the scene were just your basic suburban teens.
BUT...
The groupie thing was no joke. For instance, I knew a couple of girls who'd fuck anyone if they had even a whiff of success. I wouldn't be surprised if it was just 10-20 girls who were getting passed around between Motley Crue, Guns 'n' Roses, Poison, etc. Just epic cum dumpsters.

1 ElFaporino 2019-04-24
Yea I think they mention that in one scene
"Don't you think bthe girls who fuck us are fucking everyone nelse who comes through?
Haha, yea man...."

It's a mediocre movie that stands out because Netflix releases so much terrible stuff. Very entertaining but I won't rewatch it.
1 Not_My_Real_Acct_ 2019-04-24
That's accurate.
I've reached a point where I can predict the end of every movie on Amazon or Netflix. Because they usually feature a black guy, a white girl, a hispanic dude, and a middle aged white dude.
And without fail, every fucking time, middle aged white dude is the bad guy.
It's just getting tedious. We get it. As a middle aged white man, it is my civic duty to kill myself.

I watched it a few times, definitely best the first, not sure I'd watch it again except maybe way later

That movie was far from great.
