Opie was shitty to his employees and most notably, to Ron and Fez. He yelled “Hold on!” to pull the emergency brake on humor. In hindsight, he did so to maintain some order and facilitate fan interaction.
Ham-fisted, of course, and we tend to highlight the dud calls (“SNOWAAAY”), but seeing what the splintered shows became (especially considering the other 2 have live formats), he was the most skilled and incorporating fan interaction.
