He has never legitimately needed to advertise anything. He doesn't play shows that people go out of their way to see. He is there for the sake of entertaining (theoretically) people who would be there anyway. All of his self promoting is purely for the sake of stroking his own ego and trying to look important. This is a point that really needs to be brought up more. Even when his gigs began getting canceled he refused to let go of this, even though the only practical purpose his advertising served was getting even more gigs canceled. I wonder if he ever got in to any arguments with his band mates over this.
