I’ve stuck with the idea that Ant is legitimately a smart guy but severely disturbed by his childhood, and it negatively affects his behavior/ideas/opinions. It makes him more hateable, you know he’s almost all there cognitively but he’s willfully terrible and doubles down on every mistake he makes. It sucks to see someone I used to respect spiral into being a one note hack and be outed as an (alleged) predator.

Whatever happened in his childhood it wouldn't stop him displaying intelligence even if he still kept on being self-destructive. I struggle to think of decisions he's made that were logically sound regardless of them succeeding or not, opinions that weren't just parroting whatever source he got them from, and any evidence of critical thinking. Wit requires some kind of intelligence but it hasn't come through anywhere else. Even if he's a bit above average it wouldn't be enough to be remarkable. I think now that the wit is gone we're seeing what Ant is without it.
