Anthony’s recent assessment of Opie is incredibly fair. Opie is trying to wipe the stench of the last 25 years off of him, a lot like Howard has tried to rebrand himself. He wants to have it both ways though, Opie wants to be recognized as a celebrity and all the perks that come with it and none of the baggage that being “Opie” from Opie and Anthony came with. Howard has to a certain extent been successful but at a cost. I know a lot of Stern fans who don’t listen anymore because he changed. Opie also didn’t have SXM or the team behind him to successfully rebrand him.

The only people who actually depend on the Opie and Anthony brand are Jim and Sam, and maybe Joe. Let’s be honest Jim and Sam don’t really have an audience, so they have to depend on what’s left of the Opie and Anthony audience that’s too stupid or lazy to cancel their subscription and look for the million other better podcasts out there.
