I actually do have a close family member with advanced Alzheimer’s/dementia. On good days this person can still feed themselves, but can only really speak gibberish, or is mostly incommunicative. What’s much more important than just visiting with this person, is being a presence at the nursing home/memory care facility. My loved one fortunately has family members who visit daily, or twice daily, who make sure that they are eating at lunch or dinner, that they are being showered regularly, and that any medical issues (hematomas, bruises from falls, bed sores etc.) are being tended to. The poor bastards who don’t have family visiting regularly almost always look much less cared for. This is a decent, avg to above average facility that costs about 6k a month. The staff is mostly young people in their early 20’s, who don’t get paid jack shit for the nasty work they have to deal with, so being short staffed happens to be the norm. High turnover rate in that business. Also why it’s so important to be a constant presence, so you can get to know and create relationships with the people who will be looking after your loved one. It really does make a difference in the quality of care and attention they will receive when you’re not around. What Joe and Anthony will never understand or truly appreciate is the amount of shit that Dawn shouldered on her own when all of this was going down. There’s so many more things you have to handle when someone is in one of these facilities- if you wish for them to have a good level of care and dignity. Those two clowns have no idea the burden they placed on their little sister. I have no doubt she lives with a mountain of resentment for those rotten and ungrateful faggots.
